Driver side window won't go up automatically!

My battery recently died and after replacement, everything seemed to be working fine except for one thing: the driver side window won't automatically go back up. It still goes down automatically with no problems, but when you try to click it to go up, it just moves a bit and you eventually have to hold it all the way.

Now I've searched around and found some people talking about a window reset which is done by holding the buttons up and down for about 10 seconds each, but this is supposed to fix a window that won't go up all the way or has lost it's ability to move down and up slightly when opening and closing the door. My window has neither of these two issues, so I'm debating whether it will work or not.

I don't have access to my car today, so I'm not able to test it. I figured I'd check in here while I'm waiting to see if there was a separate fix for my issue.

I had a similar problem on my 08 MC. Mine would go up if I held the toggle but as soon as it was closed it would jut down half way again. I took it to the dealer and they said my car needed a software upgrade. Problem was solved in a couple hours and I haven't had a problem in over 3 years.
The drivers side window never goes up all the way if the circumstances are such that the driver may have left the car. So sit in with both doors shut, start the engine and the window should do auto down and auto up. Open the door and it will only go auto down. I can't remember all the combinations but thats the basics.
The window reset is when the motor needs to relearn how far to move the window up and down and won't help with this situation.
Old thread, but found this on another forum and it worked for me:

Insert the fob, hold both window toggles "down" at the same time until the windows are fully open.

Pop the fob out, then back in again, hold both toggles "up" until fully closed.

Pop the fob out, then back in again...you should have auto up/down again.

Thanks...so....much
i cannot get the license plate lights to get power after changing to led bulbs...
Try turning the LED bulbs end-for-end, some are polarity sensitive.
Are they the correct length? There are 3 sizes of 'festoon' bulbs, 31, 36 & 42mm, I think.
Clean the contacts in the lights - it's a pretty crummy design.

Sorry it's an old post ,but do you need to keep the toggle pressed down and up when the key is removed on release the toggle switch before removing the key thanks 👍

No joy for me, window doesn't drop when entering the car either. Had to remove engine and they never worked after that...tried endless plug in computer and no fault comes up??? Baffled just living with it now for over a year. Both doors are doing it, it doesn't recognize that the doors are open when driving either .
You absolute baller! This worked on my 13 plate cooperS convertible so hopefully others will have many success!
The problem I'm having is that the window goes 7/8ths of the way up, then reverses itself and goes 2/3rd down even if I'm still holding the switch up. It seems to think someone's head is stuck in the window or something.

So the problem I'm having is all of the reset advice I find says "Pop the fob out, then back in again, hold both toggles 'up' until fully closed" - but my window never gets fully closed. If I try holding the toggle for 10 seconds after the window goes almost all the way up then reverses itself, the "reset" does SFA.

The even more curious thing is sometimes the window goes 7/8ths up before reversing. Other times when it gets 2/3rds up the door pops itself open if it's unlocked. Like it unlatches itself and swings open 3 cm. That makes no sense. I've checked and the window is NOT that tight at the back that it could be pressing the door open as it goes up.
In my case I solved the problem - the issue was mechanical not electronic.

The rear window regulator had partially jumped its track somehow and was held about a centimeter to the right of where it should have been by the very guides that were meant to keep it on the track. As the window went up the regulator would jam in the door, causing the reversal.

The misalignment would also sometimes pull on the interior handle bowden cable, which is why the door would pop open.

Getting the regulator back on its track and rerouting the bowden cable solved both problems.
