Noise?

Is it coming from the right door panel? This is common for the mini. You dont need dynamat just take the door panel off and put something between the lower front corner of the door panel and the metal frame of the door.

Hey thanks for the reply ! i posted a thread about this problem the other day but no one had a solution.

so are you saying pad out a little the bottom corner of the door inderneath the panel? ie between the grill and the speaker?

thanks again

Andy..
I doubt you'll find that. You will find pre-cuts for different speaker diameters and such. This will help.
One of the 18"x32" Extreme paks will do 1 door fairly well.
On my car the door skin had some yellowish sealant on it that was a bit hard to clean off but other than that the install isn't too hard.

thats great info ! last silly question ?

does the dynamat go on the outer skin of the door ie behind the speaker or actually on the inner skin that the speaker mounts onto???

im gonna try DRSmini suggestion first by using some trim tape or a numberplate adhiesive pad between the door and the panel, if all else fails i will get some dynamat and do both doors

thanks in advance

This is what I did:

You need to remove the door panel to understand the pic - I ran sticky back felt (from a craft store) around the edge of the panel, and on the clips. I probably overdid it, but better safe than sorry ;)

Ahhh cheers gbmini

the picture, (i havent got mine in pieces yet) what is new and what isnt?

im assuming you ran the felt all round the inside and just flapped it over the edges so it cant be seen from the outside?

also did you only do this for the bottom corner or all around !!

thanks again for the info, i think ill be crashing my nearby craft store tommorow and getting ready to take it all apart!

Andy,
The only new stuff is the brown felt. And the ruler I guess - but that is temporary (pic taken for someone else that wanted to know grille size).

I ran the felt along the bottom of the panel and up both sides. As you say, folded half over the lip - you can see it if you look for it, but it is not very noticeable. Brown was darkest color I could get; you might find something that is more of a match to the car.
I also put a small piece of felt on each of the clips that latch into the door, in case they were vibrating.

The answer is .....both panels. Depends on money.
They make pre-cuts for different speakers. These go around the speaker on the panel they are mounted to. You put more on the opposing panel behind the speaker. For the door this would the outer skin.
I just did the outer skin. Makes a big difference.

You could always go to a specialist acoustic treatment (etc.) place - they'd get the stuff for you, install it, tweak it and test it.

Maybe Mikeythemini would be willing to do such a thing? ;)

im gonna bite the bullet and buy a roll of dynamat, put some on the outer skin and round the speaker and panels on the drivers side and compare the difference to the passenger side, probably end up doing the other side shortly after hopefully ! :)

yeah, i'm also keen to find out how you got on, i'm thinking about printing this thread off and taking it to my local dealer-just to show him i'm not the only one that has this fault-hopefully he might do it under warranty!
Anyone else tried this? :)
