unless your using something like latest CMD mapping software(expensive) you wont even be able to read the ecu map, even then on later cars some ecu's they are factory locked ie only way is to remove the ecu demount or eprom the storage chip,, on the very latest bmw ecu's they go one better to stop mapping ie if the ecu detects non factory coded software it locks you out and tops its self as such,, on latest ford ones they mount the chip that needs removing under the circuit board and as soon as someone try's to remove it you cant without damaging it,,I'm considering sending in my ECU for remapping to boost HP and torque. Bro-in-law found a company in British Columbia that sells an interface unit to plug into his diesel pickup such that he can download the mapping to a laptop, send the file in to the company, they then remap it and email the file back to be uploaded to his vehicle. The interface unit supposedly works for all vehicles.
So the question is, does anyone know of a company that will perform the same remapping and email a new file for upload for the Mini? So far I only know of a couple where you must send in the ECU and wait for its return. Each remapping is in the $500 USD range, whereas once the initial purchase of the abovementioned unit is done the remapping is very cheap ($50 or so, I believe), and I could share the initial investment with him.
