Hi. My 2012 Cooper is getting on my nerves and I have no idea what it could be. A couple of months ago, on long journeys, my stereo volume started turning itself down. Once down, it would refuse to go back up for some time (turning the volume knob would only turn it down, not up). It had been getting worse for weeks. Around a week ago, I couldn't get more than 2 minutes of decent volume at a time.
I've just had a new battery fitted and was thinking it might be a power issue. Sure enough, it has gotten better, but it's not completely gone. Now, on a longer journey, I seem to lose volume control after a while for around half an hour. The stereo no longer seems to turn itself down, but I still have times when I can't turn it up!
What else could it be??

have you got steering wheel buttons for radio if so the first place i would look at is that the button has lost first spring action so dont reset its self each time,, silicon spray the button first thing to try,, if not buttons then the steering wheel squib ie connector cable for electric from steering wheel back to head unit ie radio,,
if no buttons on steering wheel then its a head unit problem maybe a dty joint internal to head unit... bba remen worth contacting very good for repairs, link below
