I know several owners including myself have been having problems with false alarms due to the interior sensors. Fine with roof down but doggy with it up. A lot of people have complained about it with heavy rain. But in my case it only seems to go off when I'm asleep typically early mornings irrespective of the weather. I'm now in the habit if switching the sensor off as I lock it for the evening but it is a real pi**er when I forget and I'm nice and snug under the covers. So I now have the second key by my bed so I can shut it off

What is the latest on this? Is there a fix? I have not got around to going to the dealer yet well apart from an emergency visit for new gearbox

Has anyone got anything concrete from MINI HQ about this? Mine is going back in on Monday for a second attempt to sort out the random alarm firing (not apparently related to rain/wind/sun/temperature - just whilst in garage, and as long as it is past bedtime ... :(

The dealer said something like - "we can't get new sensors in unless we can demonstrate to MINI UK that there is a fault with one of them" which I guess if fair enough. It's booked in for 2 days, but who knows if the alarm will go off during that time, and if it does it will be when they've gone home! The car keeps a log though doesn't it - of alarm activations and what caused them??

Any info gratefully received. I usually find the dealer is more helpful if I can give them a few pages printed from MINI2 :)

Exactly why I have not booked my car in. Was in the dealership just the other day discussing the issue and they mentioned that they had one other owner with a similar problem but with no definitive resolution from BMW. Apparently they are aware of a problem but do not have a fix.

I'm also glad that I'm not the only one with a car that has sensors so clever that it can detect when I'm asleep and so thoughtfully wake me to check on it. It's like having another baby. The mini really is a character :p :p

One thought has come to mind though after washing my car the other day having forgot to disarm the car and setting it off. Is there any chance that water/condensation inside the door could be and issue? This is the second time this has happened. Both times it was when washing the doors around the mirrors. If it were the tremble sensor it would have gone off far earlier.

Early mornings would tie in with condensation and dew and car washing eg: heavy rain might tie in symptoms that other see in bad weather??

Will check this further next time she gets a wash.

I had the same problem with my alarm, randomly went off at 3 a.m. - no wind, no rain. I think my mini thought it was fun!

Booked it in with the dealer, they had to order a part from BMW and had some specialist BMW technician come in and install it - took a couple of days for them to diagnose, order and fit but touch wood I haven't had any problems since.
