Hi all,

i’ve had my baby for 4 years she is a 2004 R50 with a newer engine at 80k the rest is older at 198k. anyway i have just got a new radiator and hoses, radiator cap, clamps, thermostat, thermostat housing, fan system all done professionally and it is still boiling and i have to drive with the air con on low for the fans to work. the fans kick it at 104 but car boils at 90. had head checked and pressure is good not loosening any coolant unless i’m at idle. mechanic is stumped and i’ve spent $2500 and counting on the cooling system so far. any other suggestions all fuses checked,. can i just get the low speed fan wired into the ignition??

If you have honestly tried everything as stated all at the same time and they are the correct parts. Correct thermostat for that vehicle with the correct temperature opening for your application.
As I was saying somewhere before. Mini cooper is a Track car in a larger realm then most. Their are different spark plugs with different temperatures offered for them. As well as thermostat's. That thermostat is in question in my opinion.
Another thing is whenever I do take my Mini Cooper to a Mechanic I always request the old parts back. So that if something like this occurs I can cross reference them with the new part. In other words put the old part back on it.
I got a couple questions.
1.Was your new engine a new Mini Cooper engine?
2. Was your new engine a new re manufactured engine?
3. Was your new engine a Junk yard, or engine that someone installed for you from a garage that has been pre used?
I say that as it pertains to the water jacket in the block and cylinder head collecting sludge. By not using the proper coolant. I always use Mini Cooper coolant. 60 dollars U.S. and I will buy 2 of them and make four with water at 50/50.

thanks for answering. engine was from a wreck and i have been using the red coolant as required for my car. The thermostat is a 91degree one as it’s the lowest i can find and all parts are correct as ordered from spare parts online using my rego..

my question is can i just hardwire the fan into the ignition to solve the issue??
Hi, Are you ordering engine parts using the reg number from the car the engine came from as they will be different to your original engine, Coolant included??

In my own opinion if the car was in a accident and it is early 2000 mini cooper. I don't think it would affect much. You have regular spark plug wires. things still seem to be simple enough to just wire it on in. I would of course don't forget the controller and relays go with the fan.
