Can anyone tell me why, on my ’05 MCS, the bits that the front seatbelts click into both have a large piece of what looks like black Velcro on them, virtually covering the whole visible surface (i.e. the bit that faces the handbrake)?

Mucho confused.

Well as far as I know its to stop some of the squeeking - I experienced some in my 03 Cooper and they added some of that tape to get rid of it!!

I think it's to stop the seatbelt clip from scratching the center console and also from banging into it and making noise. I just noticed it in my 05 and have seen it in other (non-MINI) cars.
