Get a Mini? Talk me out of it! :)

I don't when it happened exactly, but I've got the Mini bug. Right now I'm driving a Toyota Matrix XRS and its a great car, but its a lease that's over in about 6 months and my eyes have started wandering. I was considering buying the car instead of walking away, but now I'm not so sure. Logic and Reason tell me I'm not even allowed to go to the dealership and look at the Cooper S, let alone take one for a test drive. And to make matters worse, the BMW sales demons are only a 5 minute drive from my house!

The Matrix is a peppy 6-speed with tons of room for kids (none yet), groceries, and the occasional trip to Home Depot. It has just about all the available options and costs almost as much as a "base" Cooper S.

If I did make the switch, I'd be losing all that space and a couple of horsies, but I'd gain a ton of torque, British style, and what I'd imagine is a really "fun to drive" car.

I realize that I'm not talking to an objective crowd, but what else am I missing in my gains and losses columns? I've been lurking in these forums and building Minis on the website compulsively, so would one of you be so kind as to put me out of my misery? :p

Thanks,
R2

Just do it - you know you want one!!! I was insistent I wouldn't get a mini when they first came out, now I have an MC and am changing it for an MCS which I have on order for March!
Summary of my thoughts:

Get a MINI because the Toyota is not a MINI.
Ha! Not helping. :)

Matrix

I've got a Martix XR and it's gone as soon as I pick up my Mini vert in March. It's a good car, but I think the Mini is a GREAT car :D

Sad state of affairs but you'll get over it with some therapy

Yes, you really should get the Toyota. It's the sensible thing to...

The Toyota is an economy car peepied up to look sporty and sound sporty. The MINI is a performance car. It's extremely fun to drive and will put a smile onyour face everytime you drive it. Also, you will have people stopping you as you get in/out of your car and telling you what a cute/cool car you have. You get a lot of friendly attention in a MINI, something I'm sure the Matrix does not provide. You'll be surprised as to how much a MINI can carry, though not as much as the Matrix, it'll work for all but the biggest of things. Get the MINI, you won't regret it. And remember, it's more than a car, it's a personality! :)
i have a 2003 matrix XR (not the XRS, i know), and hate the living daylights out of it. Well, i didnt hate it until i test drove/researched the mini. Now everytime I get in i comment about the 'plastic junk heap' and when driving about the 'crappy acceleration'. I HATE it, hate it, hate it, hate it compared to the MINI. I will be trading it in or selling it in march to make way for a MINI cooper S.

There you have it..

*anathema*
My original post was obviously a cry for help. Thanks for answering my cry. I'll go for a test drive next week. That's all... just a test drive... :D

What's logic and reason got to do with it
Just get yourself down to the dealer and have a little drive, after that, there's noooooo going back :evil laughing smilie: :p :D
You know you want to :D
Go drive the MINI. I like the Matrix, but as others have said, it is no MINI. I think it would take a Lotus to get me out of the MINI - but then I'd never afford service would I.
You think you got the bug now drive the MINI and there will be no cure.
You came here to get encouragement to get a MINI... LOL :)

HA! yeah right... "Just a test drive..." Thats what they all say. Welcome to MINIdom. I look forward to hearing the details of your spec ;) :D
there is no question... Get a MINI... everything will feel better once you have got one.

Dan
Be sure to let us know if you decided on a Cooper or the S after you've come back from your test drive. Thanks.
I'll tell you why you should not get a MINI:

a) Whenever you drive, you will have a sh*t grinning face on. People will think something is wrong with you, smiling all the time.
b) People will always be talking to you about your car at the gas station. (Pain in the *ss)
c) You will have to deal with all these compulsive people and their dammed websites (two hours a day wasted, minimum)
d) You will get stiff forearms and neck from taking corners like on a skateboard AND wear tires out to beat the band)
e) You will walk more, cuz you'll park in the back of beyond......

sound reasons to keep what you got.......
Yeah sorry I cant bring myself to talk you out of it either...go on, get the MINI, you know you want to......... :indi:
I wanted a mini from the first day they came out. I managed to resist a test drive until I could afford to make the purchase. Once you've been for a test drive there is no going back! I test drove the MC and the MCS back to back. Bit unfair on the MC, no competition. Put a deposit down as soon as I got back to the office! Go and test drive one, you won't regret it!
