Glove box removal 2014 roadster

I've been stripping the late R56 style dash (RHD) on this car following a Haynes book. For removal of the glove box they say remove the hinge pins (no problem) then 'release the guides' pointing at the guides at the sides of the door. The left side guide came out no problem, but the right side was stuck in. It seems like this side has a damper operated by a rack. Since my unsuccessful attempts to remove it the damper has stopped working.

Is the complete glovebox removable on the R56 style dash? Would be really helpful to take it right out and fix the damper if that's possible.
