Godspeed Project 1" Lowering Coils

629 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  wolbren
Hey folks!

So recently I purchased a set of Godspeed 1" lowering coils for my 2007 MCS to replace the OEM ones. I wanted a better "stance" and maybe improved handling from these, but I am hesitant to even open the box after reading some reviews.

PROS:
1. Lower stance, removing the "lost wheel" look. I did add the 1" hub-centric wheel adapters, and it helped out immensely.
2. Stiffer ride, more fun driving in the twisties this summer
3. They look cool
4. Price- $136

CONS:
1. Lower stance- here in CO, most of my fishing spots require a dirt road to access. We get plenty of snow, and our pot holes like to steal splitters.
2. Stiffer ride- again, in CO, our rail road crossings BLOW and we have more potholes than Californian immigrants.
3. Price- I mean, they are only $136, but how good could coils ride that are that cheap? I could also spend the money on other upgrades.

What say you? Are you running the Godspeed or Megan Racing lowering Coils? What is your experience with them? Any regrets?

Thanks in advance! I am actually strongly considering returning them, but maybe someone will convince me otherwise.

I think you are using a pretty good method of getting what you want out of your suspension.
That is like a good race suspension.
I had everything done on my suspension.
1.rear sway bar
2,bilstein shocks B6 all the way around
3. bushings all the way around, engine mount too
I put the 205 40ZR 18 tires and wheels on then I drove
Here:
Brown Rectangle Wood Brick Brickwork
Choco Canyon
I got relative's that out there in NM and I used to live there.
It was about 14 miles off the 2 lane highway. That road was so
bad from washout, It took me 90 minutes to cover those 14 miles.
but it did it.

Oooh I may have to look into the Bilsteins! I ran their shocks on my 4Runner and loved them.

For bushings- did you go with prothane or rubber?

What diameter sway bar/brand did you use?

I am a relatively good fabricator- do you see any benefit to making/using a strut tower brace?

ALSO I remember that my wife has a 4 door Honda Accord that we could take to the fishing spots haha. Maybe I'll stick with the Godspeed coils, Bilstein shocks, and prothane- I'll save a bit for the rear sway bar so I can purchase a quality unit!!!

I got the powerflex control arm bushings press in type on the rear. 100 dollar's U.S.
I got the powerflex trailing arm bushings easy change out cant remember the cost.
I got the hotchkis back when it was a 19mm or something. I saw the new ones are real heavy like 22 or 24mm
I got the eibach whatever there one size is on the front. That change out was kind of hard. dropping the sub frame down about 2 inches.
Front control arm bushings are superpro back when it was plastic sleeves over the pegs on the a arms but I also had a powerflex kit that I bought and did not decide to use and took the rubber washers from that so the plastic superpro sleeves over the pegs don't crack on the weld line between the a arm peg and a arm body.
I did all that years ago and it still tight. After I got the front sway bar in it can really do a 90 degree turn off on a side street at 45 miles per hour without braking. Of course I could go another notch on the rear sway bar and tighten it up but it's good enough to go down the highway in and crosses over the white broken lines without feeling funny.
I replaced my engine mount when I rebuilt my engine(upper)
But also have the powerflex purple on the lower mount with the metal piece off another lower mount bushing kit where the bushing is yellow. To keep the bushing stuffed in there.
Problem is you wake up one day after doing all that and start to figure out the ride is stiff and most of all that when Mini Cooper pick up on three wheels...sometimes they ain't going THAT fast........!

I have always wanted strut tower braces and a tie bar. The one I want NM is pretty pricey and have only recently gotten on top of all my maintenance issues. Tomorrow it looks like I need to primer then spray black matte paint on the yellow area behind the hood scoop, can't believe I have been driving with a big grin for so long with the 2 inch taller hood scoop, not really even paying attention how it looks head on. Inside the hood scoop area. As seen in my most recent avatar.

To me, Bilstein shocks are the best bang for the buck. They are firm (but not too firm), making handling much better. I also have these shocks on my F150.
