Got me a 2011 R56 Cooper S

Good afternoon all, after my Mini one was hit by someone and the insurance company said it was worth repairing! I came across a 2011 Cooper S with the N18 engin, dark metallic gray and black roof, loads of optional extras and only 29k on the clock. So far really like it and will post some pictures as soon as I can.

So did I. But, mine is Chili Red. and has 63K miles.
Mine was a 2011 R56 S as well! The N18 is a great motor and easy to make more power if you want. Be sure to keep watch on your oil as it does cannibalize a little bit in between oil changes. Also, make sure you take advantage of the factory extended warranty on the high pressure fuel pumps (10 years or 120,000 miles) as mine went out at 65K.

Yes, my High Pressure Fuel Pump is failing and I just called and found that out. However, it looks like the engine light went out on the fuel pump. I have a feeling if I go in they will just tell me well it is working now so no fixy.

I'm guessing this isn't for the UK market.
You're probably right on that knt, but I will worry about the pump if and when it goes.
I don't believe I will be able to collect on this fuel pump warranty extension only for the following reason. Most of the time, the fuel pump doesn't completely fail unless you ignore it several times and can afford to be stranded several times. The fuel pump intermittently acts up, stops working, you wait a day and it works again. I've seen it act like that on 2 cars now. On my current car, it threw 3 codes all pointing to potential problems with the fuel pump and I confirmed with MiniUSA it is covered. However, my local deal requires that I bring it in for a half a day. They say that is how long it takes to test it. (I find that hard to believe since all you need is a pressure guage). If THEY determine the part is bad (I should have capitalized IF), then and only then, will they send a letter to MiniUSA and ask them if they will cover it. Once MiniUSA confirms they will cover it, then you come back in and it is free. Now, chances are you have been stranded or lost the use of your car for many weeks before hand or you gave up, fixed it yourself or had someone else fix it. So basically it is a warranty in "mostly theory" only.

I also believe that 97% of the fuel pump issues is really the fuel filter needs to be changed.

before condemn the high pressure pump replace the in tank one they only tend to last around 60k, have seen many people change the expensive one first to so of cure it for a short while until the low pressure one totally gives up, ie the in tank scavenge pump fail by losing pressure but still will pump as such and high pressure pump wears a bit and wont make up the short fall as such, easy job to replace with a £25 after market pump that are better than factory

Well I'm going to let MiniUSA check it out. They said they would do a courtesy once over on the entire vehicle as well for free. All of these fuel pumps fail because they have to push or pull fuel from/through a fuel filter that can NEVER last the life of the vehicle with the state of gasoline in underground storage tanks and hauled by generic carriers. I have no idea what BMW was thinking when they came up with that fuel filter idea.
bmw were thinking costs and later down the road repairs so get save money on producing it and then make money when it fails, so by hiding something away that takes a hour or more to remove replace etc might make them money done the road, and also if use a small poor made pump as well knowing that the high pressure pump needs the fuel pressure to cool and lubricate the metal blades within it is a bonus ball,, all eu makers are doing this it would seem as well as making as much encoded as they can then make the diagnostics as hard as poss and have codes that only they have and wont give out etc,, EOBD was meant to be a diagnostics that all maker used same parameters on,, its turning out they are going in a new direction to prevent repairs by using )-codes and most now use a internet server for diagnostics that only dealerships can register to.. and the new hybrid gear will only get worse i fear,
