In Appreciation of MaxaMini

It is very sad for me to write this, but my father Edward, infamously known as MaxaMini has passed away. We are surrounded by friends and family, but deeply saddened by the sudden and unexpected loss of my father. He was an incredible man, a wonderful husband, and an unparalleled father. Lastly, he was a devoted Mini owner. You all were very important to him, and the last years of his life were filled with many great adventures with many of you. He was so proud to be amongst your ranks and he was truly blessed with many fond memories of his time with you all. He will be missed but forever remembered. God Bless you all. As we get more details I will post them here. Thank you all for your friendship and support.

I'm speechless. How can someone so young (at heart) just disappear. My next mini mod is a duck in Ed's honor. He truly brought so many smiles to our community.

Happy Birthday, MaxaMini

Thank you for all the joy you have given so many of us.

I know you are in a state of continuous laughter.
:eb: :eb: :eb:
Thank you for the writeups and photos, Ian, Pez, and Harvey. I wish I could have been there.
You all looked very snazzy :)
Congrats on the wedding, Kate and Greg. Ed would be so proud that his MINI was the limo! I just hope you two didn't have to ride in the back.

Bert, thank you so much for the updates and photos. I read them all with great interest.

I wrote on the bottom of the duck with a Sharpie (not that I have legible handwriting or anything), but it says Ed Smith, Maxamini 8/1/46-7/28/05 www.MINI2.com yellowmininyATyahoo.com Just in case anyone who finds it wants to know the story of Max, maybe it will lead them to here.
What a great idea--we should all do this. Maybe we can start a website like www.wheresgeorge.com except we instead mark and track rubber ducks! :D
I was just thinking of a great idea for the miniusa.com site...you know all those hidden things and objects that fly by you, that if you catch & click bring up some interesting facts or story or whatever... It would be great if they randomly had a rubber duck fly by the screen, if clicked would show a wonderful story about Ed.
Does anyone know anyone who works on their site?
Thanks yellowmini...I'm going to dig through my email and contact the guy at BEAM who does their website and asked for my photos. I need to thank him anyway for using yet another of my pics.
I got a positive response from Beam:

Thanks for the email and for filling me on the great Ed Smith story.
I love the idea of a putting a little tribute easter egg on the site.

Let me run it by the client and I'll let you know what they think!
(the client being MINI themselves)
I found and ordered the perfect duck for my MINI, can't wait to get it...you'll see next week. :) I ordered a few extras too for creative uses.
I was really tempted to get the Blues Brothers duckies. :)
My pin arrived yesterday, too, thank you! It will be pinned on my visor in memory.
Blurry, welcome, and thanks for the words. They are more true than you think, especially here in New England. Come on back when you're ready to buy one and we'll help you with every question. (Or stick around, and that time will most like be persuaded to be sooner!)
Excellent!
Think I'll need to head down to Borders and grab a copy.
Yes I've seen it at cambridgeside, downtown crossing, and prudential.
It was so great to see you on Saturday, Mart, and your very energetic driving skills! :D
Hannah impressed me so much, I don't think I've met a dog so nice, enthusiastic, well-behaved, and happy.
My duck got its first bath yesterday...it was a little dirty from riding along all winter! It looks better now but I might have to remove it and give it a real bath and scrubbing in the sink.

Hope your birthday went well, Kate, and the slumber party too!
I would like to send a huge thank-you to Ed for convincing someone up there to give us such amazing weather for this MINIsOnTop weekend! It was so beatiful all day yesterday, and even on top of the mountain the temps were near record-breaking!
You have to have at least a little joy realizing that despite a full year passing, Ed is still remembered constantly by so many people and mini events.
Sorry to hear about your Mom, Mart. Thank you again for sharing yet another great Ed story!
