Hi All

A quick question for you guys that spanner a lot.
Had the clutch/flywheel changed on my 58 plate Cooper D Thursday /Friday. Mysteriously today the O/S front inner wheel arch has come loose and been ripped apart by the wheel.
The garage promise me they didn't touch the inner wheel arch.
Do you guys think this is possbile?

Thanks Stu

NO! They have to remove both sides to undo the subframe/suspension, etc. They will have broken the plastic expansion rivets and probably re-used some broken ones if they had none in stock. They always break. Ask them how they got the subframe off without removing the liners?
Check the remaining liner and you'll see evidence that the rivets were out/broken or missing :)

Thanks for your reply.
I kind of knew but wanted confirmation. I already had to take it back as a pipe was rubbing on a drive shaft, then I discovered the reversing light didn't work again was promised it was tested and it must be a fuse, however I found the wire was tucked out of the way not on the switch.
Not sure whether to persue this or not, they've already lied to my face twice, part of me says take it back again but I know it would probably get ugly and it takes 2 years to get a County Court date round here.
Thanks again Stu

Like it says here in the BMW repair instructions, 'partially remove both wheel arch covers - at bottom, which will be at the front so parts can be moved forward, this is likely the same area that was hanging low post repair.

I'd say show this link to who you spoke to, quite calmly, and request a new liner, if no joy, ask for their email address if you haven't already got it, the boss's name if not the person you already spoke to, and/or email address for them, if no joy then email them the links to wherever you name them and tell your story if they're uninterested in resolving anything.

Thanks for your reply. I have spent a lot of money with this garage over the years as have friends and family. The simplest thing to do is vote with my feet I almost considered the owner a friend but spoken to family and a couple have had issues in the past. Personally I do not trust a word they say, they should have done other work but didn't, unable to get bits but GSF and Euro both within 500metres had in stock.
Small claims is at least 2 years new liner £60, just not worth the hassle, two heart attacks later I know which battles to fight.

Cheers Stu

you done the right thing gave them a chance to put it right as mistakes happen i'd like to think if i was having a bad day and something went out wrong that customer would at least come speak to me and explain the problem as human nature to remember the bad and not all the good jobs done when a mistake is made. but lying is another level without trust better off well away from it, ie vote with feet

I've lost £60 and some time, they've lost at least 15 customers, who is worse off?
They had the chance to rectify the faults, I understand mistakes happen we're human but they have lied several times,in my youth this would be dealt with differently but I am older and hopefully wiser and frankly have other things to deal with, they have a website with reviews I shall post my experience on it and watch how long it stays up or if it even gets put up. I appreciate you guys replying, I couldn't see how it could be done without disturbing the liners and you have confirmed my thoughts.
Cheers Stu

i had dealings with a bmw/mini private specialist a few years ago from up your way little workshop next to a church up there,(better not add a name ) i sold a car to some muppet he took it away a decided to forge it and had blown it up after sticking a big map on it the try'd conning me out of a couple of grand. he lost at court when i proved what he had done, little did he know i know a lot of people within the trade and found out his little game,* the mapping company. and where he bought the engine parts for it) i never said nothing until went in front of a judge when laid out the evidence the judge told this guy he was lucky he was not in front of him for fraud etc, said garage got involved in a making up some kind of engineers report that was not the correct report for the engine etc, the best part was he ended up paying all my legal fees all his and engineers report and got what he deserved a big bill to pay... guess its times me live in scammers everywhere

I believe I know the garage you mean, my brother knows one of the owners. Have been there once and they seemed OK but they definitely talked the talk but walking the walk is another thing.
As my location is visible on this site, I would like to make it clear the garage that did my clutch is not near where I live but on a large industrial estate where I work.
Had a couple of free hours this afternoon so collected a new liner and fitted it, there was 1 fixing on the old one luckily I had a few of the expanding/screw fixings.
It is bloody annoying how the legal system works around things like this, for £60 I am ****ed but not worth persuing just won't be going back and will share my experience with all I know uses them.
