iPod help please . . . .

hey all,

Please hope someone can help me here, getting frustrated.... just got my new 20gb iPod today and started to set it up on my PC, put the cd in and followed 1st few steps, then it says that my ipod needs formatting and to connect it to the comp. It is still formatting now after about 5 and half hours :( and shows no signs of nearing completion, is this right???

How long should it take, it says "do not disconnect" so am wary of switching off comp or unplugging iPod.....

Somebody please help here as I want to get some music onto it and get it installed to my MC.

thanks loads,

Ben.

a good resource for ipod information including problem solving can be found at www.ipodlounge.com

I hope this helps.
will look now, thanks :)
don't be fooled into reformatting your ipod. windows is funny like that. it might be that you dont have a current windows operating system. win xp seems to work fine but u need to install itunes and the ipod software that came with your ipod onto your computer. hope that helps. most of my freinds, including myself experienced initial growing pains when trying to use the ipod with a pc. the result was an outdated operating system.
enjoy
If it's not fully charged, it sometimes says do not disconnect if it is charging i have discovered..... try manually removing the device on itunes (eject button) if you have finished the set-up..... (there will be no sort of recycling moving arrow (data transfer) thing if it's just charging)

But it may also be your Operating system....
yes do what Villa said, try to do a manual eject, this should stop it and let you unplug.

Do you have it set so that you can use it as a hard drive?

Oh and try not to ever unplug when it tells you not too, I did that with mine and the whole operating system on the ipod crashed and it had to go back:(
thanks all for the help, problem now solved, seems someone on the iPod lounge had the same probs, all sorted now and it's just converting all my thousands of songs from WMA format..... hmmm time consuming, but worth the wait!!!! :D :D :D

thanks again all :p !!!!!
