Hello,

In the process of diagnosing why the stage 1 fan doesn't come on my 2001 Mini One, fuses seem fine and relays I switched about in the engine bay. Been through plenty of articles here, and most point to a resistor and a repair kit (stage 2 fan came on during the heatwave recently while in traffic, so it works... just), however the fan on my mini looks like the image below.

Is the resistor built into the main fan motor unit i.e. its a case of replacing the entire unit.

Cheers,
Sam

just trace the wiring back from the fan you should come across the fan resistor probe best way to find it, must admit been a while since seen a gen 1 without aircon etc,

sorry for the late reply, I was holding off until I took a photo but haven't! So following the wiring it goes to the right of the engine bay, and then joins another set which is all taped together, so no luck there. I'm starting to think perhaps the first gen only has one setting... that being high. Can anyone confirm my suspicions?
