It seems the 2008 Convertible is a bit of a mishmash of design ideas.

If I want to do an OB check all 2008 Minis are OK EXCEPT the convertible which is not listed on some software such as bimmer etc.

The same goes for the Key FOB. Mine wont recharge for more than a few hits after 3 hr drive so am looking at putting in a new battery.

All Mini Key FOBs don't seem to be equal. Mine has the hinged key on the side. I have read many posts about pre 2007 and post 2008 but nothing about the 2008.
Does anyone have any ideas about how to upgrade the battery without mortgaging my house from a dealer for a new one?
Anyone tried the universal programmable FOB's? Where else can we get keys made. I only have one.

And is there any chance someone can guide me with respect to the ABS. The guy before me isntalled all new brakes, but the ABS light and the brake light is still on. I tried powering the car off and disconnecting the battery to no avail.

Many thansk in advance.

2008 was a change over year on convertible ie super charged gen 1 r52 tritec engine and designed by rover group ,
common on these is abs pump failure , need diagnostics scan tool see what codes are in there also will need to reset any codes at same time,
they key fobs can get genuine from main dealers £130 uk money, or on ebay there are repair services links below

Thanks Mike, this gives me an idea on where to start with the FOB.. At the moment I know it works for a short while after charging so the FOB itself seems functional, just the battery not hold a charge; expected in the 2008 technology time frame.
It looks like the FOB is thermal/fusion sealed/bonded and not easily accessible without cracking/cutting the case open.

It has an ABS 'pump'?

Mine is a base unit with no turbo or super/Ch inlet air augmentation.

Did a code check with a decent wired OB scanner, seemed to work Ok but got no codes even with the brake and ABS lights on. A BMW thing I think, its supposed to show codes but not to the Bimmer level of detail.

Have ordered a bluetooth scanner to be linked to my phone and running a bimmer type software package; any ideas?
Again there were issues with the 2008 Convertible model changeover, the factory indicates in a cheaper model scanner that 2008 is available with the exception of the Convertible. Fingers crossed, I ordered a Veepeak OBDCheck BLE+ Bluetooth 4.0 OBD2 Scanner for Android, purchased from Amazon after looking for some time. It's bimmer compatible but now I need to figure out the most compatible software.

Sending it in for safety check this week toa non dealer Mini specialist. Wanted to reset the brakes & ABS lights before sending. (New brakes all round)

Cheers

Quick FOB Update for others in the same boat:
I contacted BIMMERCODE with this question re the OB Scanner and lack of 08 Mini Conv. support:
My Question:
Why is a 2008 Mini Cooper Convertible not supported when all minis from 2008 are supposed to be?

Their answer:
Hi, these cars use the k-line for communication over the OBD port and a different protocol and therefore they are not supported, sorry.

i scanned one today with autocom cdp plus r52 2007 ie trtec running the older k-line ie rover group tech,, worked a treat,, best for money link below
cannot beat these for the money nothing around comes near with what it will do and what cars it will work with
i dont comment on apps or software i never would use as to limited use, autocom cdp plus had mine since 2013 and have used the hell out of it not found much it wont work with,, on the r53 and r52 it will do everything form live data to codes to adaptations etc,,
