Couple of days ago my mini acted funny, would not turn on, but the electrics comes on and goes a bit "crazy", installed a new battery and everything turned to normal seems my battery was dead. Problem is since then my remote on my key is not working anymore, I have ot put the key in the doorlock to unlock the car. Anyone know how I can fix this?

Hello

I have a 51 mini one and I had the same problem recently. My remote wouldnt work and I had to use the key to get into the car. At the same time, my right indicator started flickering really quickly when I indicated to go right.

Cut a long story short but I took it into the local dealership and they said my car needed a new BC1 unit which is nearly £500!! The BC1 controls all electrics on the right side of car, I think? I did have the work done but when they drove my car back to my work after doing the work, my right indicator was still flickering quickly and I kicked up a right stink.

They agreed to take out the new BC1 unit and then put my old one back in, reset the BC1 unit and since then, my key remote works and my indicator has gone back to flickering in the normal way...... until today................

I have just been on the motorway, indicated to go into the right hand lane and the indicator has started flickering really quickly again......

I am hoping to ignore it and hope that perhaps my car was having a bad day - but I am starting to think that I might need that new BC1 unit after all!!

I am going to post a thread on here to see if this has happened to anyone else.

Let me know what the garage say about your key remote - perhaps you also need a new BC1 unit?

To reset your key, well for 2004+ versions this works not sure if older ones...

Get in MINI put key in ignition then take it out
Point key at aerial at back of car
press and hold UNLOCK button
press key LOCK button 3 times within 10 seconds WHILE keeping UNLOCK button depressed.
Release UNLOCK button
System should lock and unlock car to indicate programming has been sucessful.

A maximum of 4 keys can be programmed.

The keys only reset themselves cos the cars battery has been taken out for a while.

Hope this helps...

P.S - neenabangal are you sure you dont just need a new bulb?

I have tried this now several times and it hasn't worked ??? does anyone have any other ideas of to get my remote key working... I have just got my MCS 05 from a local dealer and neither of the remote keys work, the dealer I bought it of has booked me in at my local MINI dealer to get it fixed on tuesday (at no cost) but i could really do with getting them sorted soon...

I know that the car has been sat at the garage for approximately 6 months... could it be that the batteries have gone flat in the remote keys???

If so how many miles is it likely to take before they are recharged???

Any help would be appreciated.....

Been to the main dealer today and it turns out that the remote receiver unit is at fault... apparently its only a 40 minute fix and it will be covered by the MINI warranty ...

Happy days... only problem is I have to waittill next wednesday to get it done:(...

At least i know what the problem is now....

That reset reads like some sort of witches potion, however after struggling with using the door lock to unlock and lock the car I'm prepared to try any thing.
So out I go at 1.30am to give this a try after reading and oh my jolly aunt it works a treat.
We have messed about with the door lock since Xmas after misplacing the other key somewhere in the house.
Great post! You gotta love mini2 for this:D sort of thing.
Nice one

key

hi all, flat battery today after leaving the car for a few days unused, jumped the car, and the key stopped working,

tried the above ,to reset the key, and it worked perfectly, so a huge great thankyou to designer-label for the cure, i thought i might have to take a day off to take the car into the city to the BM dealer, plus the cost, i'm now a very happy bunny.:):):):)

Hello everyone,
I am a french owner of a Mini cooper R56, year December 2006, and I have a problem with the remote Key. I can close the car with the remote control, and I can also open the back door, but i CAN'T open the car with the remote ( only with the key itself into the lock...).
On that model R56, there is no removable accu, but just an fix battery inside.
I presume i have a problem on the remote control key only, and not on the remote receiver.

Does everyone have a solution for me ?

Many thanks,

Pierre

Hi Designer Label. Just tried your voodoo in 2019 - still working. Now have two keys working when I thought one was dead.

Brilliant!

Cheers

Just used this sequence, but found that you had to execute the entire operation pretty quickly. My son said within 5 seconds from key removal to final button release. It just worked for us, so thanks! We had just cut the key open to replace a dead battery and found a small capacitor had broken free of the circuit board. Fixed those and then tried to reprogram with this sequence which only worked once executed quicker. Hope this helps someone!

Just FYI, we had to use a razor knife to cut open the key (which is factory welded shut). Used super glue to reattach cover when we were done. Seems to be good.
