Keys not working!

Hi there sorry if this is the wrong thread (please move me to the correct thread if you want) but I am having an issue with the mini one (2006). I bought it the other day, everything works great and I love it but the key seems to only work manually (i.e. putting it into the door myself and turning to lock / unlock) I have tried to find info on how to set the key to work with the buttons to lock and unlock etc but there are too many to chose from and I don't want to break the key and also some of the advice is for a key that has LOCK and UNLOCK buttons but my key only has one Unlock (padlock symbol) button and a boot symbol button. Can someone advise on how to solve this issue, the key has been in the ignition so shouldn't be dead. I have uploaded a picture of the key so you know what I am talking about,

Cheers guys..::smile::>:D:kiss:

It could still be the fob battery, they may be rechargeable but 13 years life with lots of charging or worse not using them and allowing them to flatten, is asking a lot of one.

Ok so what do I do if the battery is flat? can I open the key myself and change the battery?
iv the same problem as yourself, iv just got a mini one 2005, iv just ordered a new battery, BUT it needs de-soldering of the keyfobs circuit board and the new one soldering back on, when it arives il let youn know if it works.

Hi Buzzr666, just wondering how you made out with the battery replacement?
You Tube does a good battery replacement video quite easy to follow
only dodgy part was the careful cutting of the plastic key in half with a stanley knife bing careful not dig in to deep to damage the circuit board inside
then desolder & resolder new battery
worked straight away

there are several mail order replacement services on eBay - they do all the case opening, soldering etc. 35gbp. Here's just one:

That page lists several alternatives at the bottom of the page
