Hi All,

I have a 2001 Mini Cooper 1.6i and I’ve been noticing that when I’m driving at night the lights(normal beam and high beam) dim? Haven’t noticed wether dash lights do it at the same time or not but can anyone shed some light! Excuse the pun? any feed back would be appreciated.
bad earth or live lead from battery, then after that will need to chack the charging rate with multimeter, needs to stay above 14.0volts 14.7v is perfect also might need to drive car with lights on to get the load on the circuit if the voltages jump around then chances are its a alternator problem,, when engine running look down on the belt if it seems to jump start and go as such then its a bad free wheel pulley problem, can buy them on ebay for £30

Thanks Mike1967, with regards to earth and live lead connections can they be cleaned up with wire brush, would that work of would they need replacing? Will check alternater belt.
wire brush off cover in grease bolt back together best way, these connections form factory dont tend to have any on them, as for knowing if faulty wire side of it, count the amount of 0.9mm strands and times this by 1.0 ohm ie a 10 strand wire should read 9 ohms ish this is resistance this controls the amount of flow protons and neutrons ie electricity. when checking this will a multimeter set on ohms resisnace its good to move the wiring around while connected any big changes is the reading means a fault open circuit or a high resistance causing lack of flow of the above,
