Hi,

My girlfriend has a mini cooper 2001 reg model and has a few issues that I can’t find out as she didn’t get a manual with the car!

On the dash, there are two light that worry me! A red light that indicates an airbag symbol that stays on every time she is driving. The second light is a yellow flashing exclamation mark which only comes on after about 3min when driving.

I have looked on the net regarding these two issues and I can’t find anything that can help me understand what could be causing them both to light up :(

Hope you can help

Kindest Regards

I think the exclamation mark is the tyre pressure. Pump up all the tyres and press the button under the handbrake and keep it pressed until the light goes to yellow. Drive at a constant speed until the light goes out.
The mini handbook i have here tells me there is a problem with the airbag if the light comes on goes off briefly and then comes back on.
Take it to a dealer and get it checked as it could result in the airbags not operating if involved in an accident.

Heyo,

Airbag light can mean a couple of things. For your information, when the airbag light is on, in the event of a crash, NO airbag will deploy. So have your system checked immediately.

The reason for it being on can be something simple like the steering wheel removed and replaced, without the system being reset. It can also mean you have a fault with one of the airbags. You will either need to take the car into a dealer or a BMW / MINI specialist with a fault code reader.

-------------

Other issue, I am not sure about the runflat light flashing? - This is new to me, it usually just goes on and stays on yellow. Check it tho as said, pump up tyres, then turn on ignition 2 clicks, press and hold the button until it illuminates or changes colour, then drive off as normal. most people/places dont know how to reset these.

If not, I would really try to get hold of a manual. You can sometimes find them on ebay!

Good luck.

I had the same problem both of it. the yellow light indicates that your tyer pressure not stable, sometimes means your air inside your tyers might too hot. you can try pump up all your tyers first. second turn off your engine, turn your key to the first place than keep pressing the button under the handbrake wait for maybe 1 min, than turn on your engine to see is it solved. I solved my problem with this way.

Airbag light, two possible problem, 1. your air bag has been used..but seems not your case, coz your car haven't been crashed right? so 2 which is the circuit problem, just use go your local garage ask them to deel with it, I think just 40 pounds can be solved.

hope this could help!!

In regards to the airbag light - it may mean that the airbag doesn't come on in the event of a crash, but it could also mean it may go off WHILST YOU'RE DRIVING! I've just read a thread on here where someone had the same light showing, and the airbag went off as they were driving down a dual carriageway!

Was this on a MINI? The airbag system should be disabled while the light is on.

With regard to the airbag light

This is not defo saying you have no airbags. The system flags a fault if resistance on the wire loom is incorrect and for several other reasons. In my car it is illuminated as my battery detach unit is faulty... I have looked into the issue thoroughly and am now convinced that all that becomes deactivated on the system when the lights on is the element of the system that is faulty. You will still have airbags deploy in an accident (if its not one of these thats faulty). Companies like ThinkMINI have kit that can read the specific fault and see what element of your system is the problem. I just drive with mine illuminated all the time as there is still a feed to the other elements of the system. Its up to you to find out which bits wrong on yours and decide if you need to fix it.

The other light dies indeed sound like the RF indicator... just follow the instructions given to reset it after you have made sure the pressures are all correct and the same. This will sort it out. Also this indicator can flag ABS issues as they use one and the same sensor i believe.
