Hey all,

I'm looking at an 03 Mini S with 110k miles. Owner doesn't know what's wrong with it, but it's throwing a code and cylinder 3 is fouling. Car runs and drives, just slow. Any idea what I might be looking at in terms of fixing it up? I'd be getting it in a trade for a bike so cash sale price isn't a thing.

What's the code?
Corrosion of the #3 contact on the coil pack is very common.
A wire brush or sandpaper & a few minutes of your time may be all you need.

Make sure the spark plug is tight! In fact check all of them!!

Would you say this is a problem that is easily fixed and not something like loss of compression?

Not sure what the code is yet. The seller said he put in an 'inline defouler' and that hasn't really fixed it.

Also, car is about 2 hours away. If i were to drive it back, would that cause any major damage?

Hard to tell from a distance. It would be worth getting a good compression test.
I'd get the code & find out what an 'inline defouler' is. I certainly wouldn't risk a 100-mile drive.

Pass on it . There's so many of these around , running with no issues for cheap .
Unless he's asking a price that can risk throwing money into it. Which you will.
