Ok folks - as Bob wants to kick start in earnest on Saturday I guess we should be looking to get things moving viz closing the existing Ball off and starting the new one.

Details on 2009:

Date :
Saturday September 26 (I will confirm tomorrow with the hotel just to be doubly sure).
Location:
Blackpool
Theme:
Gold - celebrating 50 years of Mini
Tickets:
Cost to be held at £45.
Charities Supported:
NSPCC and Derek Woodmans nominated Charity (probably Brian House but not yet confirmed)
Accommo:
£85/double room for 1 night and £80/double room per night/2 nights. Small number of standard single rooms will be available at the same price otherwise single occupiers will have a supplement of £20 to use double rooms.
Format: Welcome drinks, dinner, auction/raffle/casino/disco. Possibility of including an entertainer of some sort on the evening to go around the tables.
Saturday Charity Ball Run

As per usual in Charity Ball fashion. I will look after this but may get someone else to manage depending on how things go.
Friday nights entertainment

To be organised by Sooper Paul.

I will also be speaking to Derek Woodman about the possibility of getting Russ Swift to come over and do his stunt show on Saturday afternoon at one of their car parks with a view to charging people to see it. And selling tickets to win a ride with him on the three stunts he specialises in. The winners would be able to sit with him in his car that day as he does them. (This is not guaranteed but I am looking into it ;) ). If it happens then there will not be a run.

I will also be speaking to the hotel tomorrow to try and get the rooms discounted further, however, it is unlikely so be prepared for the accommo cost to stay the same.

Table discounts available as per previous Balls - i.e. 11th person comes free if you book a table for 10.

Usual sponsors to be chased - additional sponsors to be welcomed :)

Anything else to add? Ticket deposits?

The full detail for the thread could be added in a few days time anyway as long as we get the date and location up tomorrow (hopefully).

Good work Sham!
Just tell the hotel that another hotel within the area (no names!) is willing to drop lower per night....it's an olden oldie but a good ploy. They can only say yes! Ask for £70 per night for those staying 2 nights....they may just offer £75 in which case that is a right result! ;)

I missed this. It sounds pretty weird to me? Not sure, especially with the usual time constraints, it will be welcome OR workable?

it's an idea only at the moment and will depepnd on ticket sales. But from a timing etc point of view it does not impact as these guys just wander the tables during the meal - magicians etc - can be very impressive ;)

Cool it's coming together :D

As for the Run, I don't mind leading it if you can't Sham - as long as you can map it out. With this much notice I'm sure I can wangle some extra days off work that week. So we can do a recce and I get a practice in ;) I lead the Manchester Ball Run based on Brummie's notes and we only went wrong once. Mind you I did have Josefina to navigate (meaning that was a good thing ;)).

Call me a miserable old git if you like, but that sort of stuff just ****es me off. At meal time I want to eat, maybe talk, but not watch some bloke do tricks or tell "jokes". Don't think we need it.

Maybe have a big bald bloke run through the room completely naked covered in gold paint. Quick, cheap, and I bet it will get laughs.

 :p

I don't know f it would be worth the expense to be honest. It's more money that could go to the charities. I've been to those restuarants with that kind of theme and I just wanted to tell the guy to bugger off with his "in your face" tricks.

I like that nekkid guy idea though.....

Just had a look for photographers

This site looks good and has a long tradition of charity events. NakPhotography - the best name in event and social photography

Do you have a special package for charities and fundraisers ?

We gladly donate 10% of the evening's proceeds to the charity.

We have a long established relationship with a number of charities. Jeremy has a run a rock and roll band (playing free of charge for charities) for many years Click here to see the BadDads web site.
I have of course checked out the band but they usually play within the M25 but are open to travelling for the right event. So it might be a long shot but worth going for just to get a free live band

yeah but how long would it take him to get there with his little naps ;)

If you want the same bloke as last year then someone else can deal with him :p He did my head in, stressed me out, and pretty much spoiled my evening :(

Well these other bits can be discussed as time goes on.

At the moment i t's a case of confirming the venue and date and making sure that the opening post for the new event will be ok.

However, the person who can confirm the date for us is in't in till Monday  - I'm confident the date will be ok but obviously it's not confirmed until it's confirmed :p.
