This is a common problem with cars imported from Japan and I'm sure I read somewhere of an adaptor that can be put in-line with the head unit. It might be worthwhile asking one of those specialist Japanese car importers what they do.

One for the dealer I'm afraid. HU is progged for market so you should be ok there.

the dealer namely Williams Manchester are refusing to help. Bowkers of accrington were more helpful and said that a processor upgrade may work. i looked into this and found that other BMW headunits can be changed by turning it off and on and pressing a sequence of buttons. not very BO

easy peezy If memory serves me correctly!!!!!!

turn the radio off

switch it on. Now hold the m button pressed down for about 8 seconds. The display will change to the unit's serial number. Press the + button to scroll through to region or area (can't remember what's it's labelled as) - change the region to EUROPE - using the ">" button. Do not change any other code whatever you do!!!
