"Midlife Crisis Buy"...

or "How I'll spend the next few years zipping around Maine and northern New England". It's been a long time coming for me. 51 years old and buying my first new car just for the fun of it. :) Now I guess it's the waiting game, but if I've waited this long a few more months won't make too much difference.

Just the basics: Chili Red Cooper
white roof, mirrors, rims
sport seats, sun roof.

That's it. Should be interesting since the only cars I've ever had were a used '65 Volvo 544sport, striped Mercury Zephyr(not even a radio) that my wife bought(family car), a Dodge Colt Vista(family car), Dodge Caravan(family) and her an '01 Honda Civic.

Have fun all. I'm certainly going to try to.

You should'nt have to try too hard. I grin like an idiot the whole time I am in mine.

Whoo hoo. I love my car!!!
No Regrets

Fred3, Go for it! I got my cooper at 49 but I did have a MkII Golf GTI before it. The Cooper's great, especially after the MTH re-chip software I've just loaded. Have fun and loads of smiles on your journeys :D
Fred3,

Its not a "Midlife Crisis Buy", its a "Midlife Celebration Purchase"; we must be sensitive about what we call things these days... :p

Congrats on your new car! My MINI made me decades younger (well, emotionally, anyway).
Maybe we ought to have our own section on MINI2 for the over 45's called "The MCC Thread". :p

MCC = "Midlife Celebration Club" :D

I'm slightly too young for the over 45 club ;)
But still it was an age related buy - my first new car - I wanted it, and I was at the age where I could go out and buy it.
Our reg is S*** UMC.... our neighbour says it stands for Steve Undergoing Midlife Crisis lol :p

He was 43 when he ordered the MINI btw ;)
Over 50 and Own A MINI

It's good to see another Mainer, and an 'over 50' one at that. Join the fun.

It's almost like crusin' when we were young, looking for girls. If I was young and single, I probably could get one.

Well, O.K,

Taller, not so stout, better lookin, had more money .d..jfkjfj jd aaagggghhhh

Forget it, I'll just drive OB around Maine and smile!!!!! Forget the females!

At the end of the day, the over 45 midlife crisis man has come to realise that cars and motorcycles don't cost anywhere near as much to run as a female, they never tell you what to do, never have headaches, they don't get jelous when you testdrive a new model and the fun and excitement lasts longer than 10 minuets!! :D :p :p

>>...checks over shoulder to make sure the wife isn't reading this!!! ;) :D

Yeah, if you have waited this long for a new car, another few months can't hurt!
I ordered my Cooper Jan. 27th and collected May 1st, I'm only 9 years younger.
Very happy with my stripped CR/W Cooper, std. leatherette seats, 7 hole wheels, 5 speed, no Xenons or any other option packages.
Except seat heaters, which work great, I would recommend these for those Northeast winters! :)
congratulations on your order! Nice specs! ;)
I've been going through Mid-Life crisis car buying since I was 15...........I Just didn't think I'd live this long.....lmfao

PS: congrats on the new baby, my wife cut me off at 4 cars max, so now I'm a little envious when I hear of people placing new orders.
Better Late Than Never!

I purchased my "MidLife Crisis" car 7 years ago. A Triumph Spitfire, which I have restored. It's a car I saw as a kid and at 41 I finally was at a point in my life to buy it. It's been great fun and worked out so well I bought my second Crisis car a 2003 MINI! Now I have as much fun driving in the Winter as I do in the Summer.
Enjoy the ride Fred!

This will be my first brand new car ever and I'm 46 edging to 47. I no longer have to haul kids around and I sure plan to have some fun when my Hyper Blue S comes. My oldest is in college up in Maine. She'll probably get more visits from me this year. ;)

My husband is afraid I won't let him drive it! Hahahaha. I told him "once in a while" :D
A cooper must be the most pleasant way to have a mid-life crisis. I am a little beyond that stage as my Coopper was a 60th. birthday retirement gift to myself. I have not had so much fun, even in my classic MCS in the 1960s.

You will enjoy!

Which college? My daughter is at Orono...

and can't wait for the Mini to arrive so she can drive it when she comes home on break.

I'll be asking my father to teach my wife to drive the 5spd. Then she'll see what fun it is. She fell in love with the convertable in the show room. :) :)
