Mini Cooper r53 transmission issue..

Hi,
been reading through the forum but didn’t find similar issue. My transmission start acting up, 1 and 2 gear really rough, looks like car doesn’t know when it should shift. Sometimes stuck on 3rd gear.

I don’t think is common issue of solenoids or valve body, replace solenoids 20k ago and was shifting fine after.

what is very odd is when I connect INPA to the car I’m not able to communicate to transmission module anymore like I did before.

maybe I have a bad connection or a bad module?

where should I look for wiring?

If that has melted the plastic connectors, I would guess the control module has internal damage too (assuming the dark staining is heat related)

If it is oil, then I would suggest that the fluid could have caused internal damage/shorting
Found module over foot pedals, believe to be tcm.

Just bought some Electrical cleaner, will remove the module and inspect for visual damage.

will report back.

Looks like oil residue is coming from the hole in the fire wall. Transmission module doesn’t look like has damage inside.
IF all of the pins are clean and the DeOxit stuff has worked its magic, that looks ok from a visual.

Can you see the TCM with your scanner now?

yes I can see it connected via INPA.
now does not get stuck on 3rd gear, goes through all gears but slips in 1 and 2.

yesterday I add some fluid in hope that could be low and help. Now I’m wondering if I over fill it and I causing the slipping.

or the solenoids from 1 and 2 and not working properly…

the TCM seems to be communicating again, maybe will give it a second clean
At this point I’m wondering if I should try to replace valve body.
Good news about the clean pins and having communication - with the fill, I need to look at service data, as you normally just fill to the fill hole and then put the plug back in once it stops dripping (car on a level surface) - di dyou force loads in to the gearbox?

If it is slipping, it could be that the clutch packs for 1 and 2 are worn

I didn’t force the gear box, normally only my wife drives just around the city. This happens on yesterday. Drove the car fine on Monday and yesterday afternoon my wife called me saying was slipping while accelerating.
could be that the old fluid had some residue in it that helped with the old clutch packs - it is possible the packs are wearing (like a manual tranny)

If it is changing thru the gears, it is possible for worn packs
Is that something replaceable or only a new transmission? Thanks for your help.
The clutch packs normally can be replaced by a clutch centre - you do not need a new tranny
