If anything doesn't look or feel right Mike has given me the option to replace it whilst engine is apart.
My baby has had the works. You name it, we have replaced it, pretty much.

AAA car hire in Launceston.
Sandero is mid range at 拢38 a day inc vat. No deposit.
If it were me doing 300 miles again I would pay the bit extra for the skoda.

finally today its back to life I primed oil system a few times put plugs in and one press of button it started and just went straight to a perfect idle no misfires sounds really nice, before first start i run diagnostics autocom cdp plus delphi reset adaptions,,, then I reset and relearn the vvt dog stops , then i reset adaption for vanos system this tends to take around 30 minutes by time jump[ through some hoops ie ignitions on and off etc, failure to this correctly can causes problems, as this has had a new cat and both sensors and turbo rebuilt and new oil pump ,, it also has had a stage one map so 228bhp at wheels and hole bag of mid range torque,, i so love the n18 engines mapped they go really well for it,,,
i also changed the gearbox oil as running the extra power i always use wyns additive for gearboxes it does a couple useful things one is makes oil more slippery,, and it softens the rubber seals so prevents oil leaks ,,, below pic is how i refill gearbox on them i use a hold plastic bottle cut to a funnel then added pipe that fits in to gearbox filler hole and a bungy cord to the bonnet,, then i just fill from top really easy ... I also have a catch bowl under the hole when full it over flows and that is it easy,,

so its had its first bedding in run today ,, tomorrow will stick wheels back on and run it for a hour warm it up and then give it 20 minutes at 2500 finish off bed in of rings,, then its going home then I carry on with my problem child cooper s I have in a mo with the mother of wiring issues ,,,

taken this for mot today after a 5 ,mile round the block if that, emissions passed C0 0.00 and HC 1 to fail HC would need to be over 200 and C0 0.20 is last pass point , so supper clean and proves the job done and oil burning has gone away for sure,

Hi Mike,

Have followed a number of your builds, very impressed. I have a 2010 1.6 Cooper (not S) that has 115000 miles and has started mis-firing (again). I have replaced cam chain and guides and also valve stem seals myself at about 110000k. Have to admit I was on a budget and used cheap ebay parts.
I noticed a slight rattle for about 5-8 secs on start up about 3 weeks ago, now it has full-on misfire cyl 4. Going to check basics tomorrow, plugs and coil packs and have valve cover off to look around . I suspect it will not anything simple as I replaced plugs at 11k as 2 of the plugs were covered in hard black deposit so no gap. Can you PM me about your refresh service?

Thanks.

So.
Had my car back 3 days now, nearly finished the running in process. 100 miles to go.
Oil and filter change tomorrow pm.
I have to say, Mike1967 has done a superb job. Starts on the button and runs like a dream. Can feel it just wants to go. Sounds better too, both engine and exhaust.
Can't wait till I can give it some beans.
Mike has done a full refresh. Piston rings, valve stem seals, full timing chain kit including both vanos sprockets, oil pump chain and sprocket. Cleaned pistons and valves and reseated. Honed cylinders.
Mike is obviously a perfectionist when it comes to rebuilding these engines. His mini experience, knowledge and attention to detail have blown me away quite honestly.
Anything that looked or felt wrong/had too much play/was worn he would send me a video of the offending item and I agreed to change it on most occasions.
This included;
Oil pump
Water pump
Aux belt tensioner
Aux Water pump
Oil filter housing and cooler
Cat
Both O2 sensors
Both Vanos solenoids
All 16 lifters
Turbo CHRA
Stage 1 remap to 225bhp
This lead to quite a parts bill but Mike has charged me hardly any labour to fit all these parts while it was apart and access was good.
Also some of the bodges and shortcuts by my local 'specialists' Mike uncovered were beyond belief.
It had a timing chain kit fitted a year ago and timing was out already, they didnt change/used the wrong unhardened oil chain sprocket and reused the chain guide slider thingy's.

One small issue that now seems to have resolved itself was an oil light coming on at stationary idle on the way home.
Oil pressure was falling below 2 bar at idle and triggering light.
At first Mike thought it was the oil pump as he was unable to get a Pierburg and I was reluctant to pay for a Main dealer part so he fitted an inferior aftermarket part.
He suggested getting the main dealer pump and bringing it down to him. He would fit it free of charge in about four hours and have me on the road home again the same day.
Really couldnt ask for more.
Fortunately this now seems to have resolved itself as I have been monitoring oil pressure and, today at least, oil pressure at idle is staying above 2 bar.
Possible stiff non return valve in new oil filter housing? now working properly?
Throughout Mike has been available and reassuring, I would recommend his services most highly.
Will update once running in is finished.
Thanks again Mike.

Are the rod bolts reusable or do you have to replace. Cheers
rod bolts are single use unless you buy into ARP which is a good idea really
