My mini will only start when the fuel pump is hot wired to the battery. Once started the hot wire can be removed and it continues to run.
This model has the kick panel fuse block with removable relays.
I replaced the fuel pump relay.
Here is the sequence with the hot wire removed.
Turn key on - pump runs for a few seconds; it will not start.
Alternate starting:
Turn key on; pump runs.
Hook up hot wire.
Car starts
Disconnect the hot wire and the car continues to run.
