hi, new here looking for some ideas to help find the cause of of a weird rubbing noise from my 04plate cooper if possible !, noise started a couple of months ago and i can't see anything obvious !, i here it moving forwards, it goes away on turning right, it's very quiet turning left and not there reversing !, from inside, it sounds like its coming from offside front, with drivers window open it sound like its underneath the drivers seat, anyone else have/had this before and can give me a clue ?, thanks in advance !

Have you jacked the car up and tested the wheel bearings for any play. Ive got a similar issue on mine, making noises to the point its loud with the window down. I jacked the car up and the Front left wheel bearing has quite a bit of play. So replacing it tomorrow

As 7yron3_R53 offers wheel bearing play needs to be considered.

In the meantime see if you can affect the noise by lightly applying the brakes. As a car accumulates miles pads can under some conditions can drag on the rotor.

Believe it or not but I've eliminated some brake noise by washing the brakes at a DIY car wash. The washing (really just a thorough rinsing no scrubbing) removes the brake dust build up from the brake piston boots. Dust build up can interfere with the natural tendency of the brake pistons to retract slightly (seal hysteresis) when the brake pedal is released.
