Does the central locking switch on the dash have any effect??
Does the central locking switch on the dash have any effect??Strange one this, all of a sudden the boot latch isn't working either via the button under the tail gate or via the key fob, strangely both work if the soft top is in down (open) position.
Not sure if this is a coincidence but I was trying to open the boot via the key fob as my wife was closing the soft-top this afternoon and that’s when the problem started.
Any ideas, what's happened?
I have the same problem. Also a soft top not latched warning comes up when driving over 20 MPH and the warning sound won't go off. I have had this intermittently but now seems permanent. Did you manage to fix your problem?I've since found out it's all linked to the soft top roof sensors / microswitches, that's where the problem lies. I'm going to give the roof sensors / microswitches a good old clean / degrease and inspection at the weekend.
Thanks for the information. I will try look at mine tomorrow. Good luck.Very difficult to reach micro switch / sensor 2, gave it a good spray with electrical contact cleaner though and voila boot works and roof warning off. I'm off to watch F1 quali so ill try taking it for a run later and see if issue is now solved or merely intermittent.
Let me know how you get on, I'll do like wise. Thanks for the information. I will try look at mine tomorrow. Good luck.

I have spent the morning having a clean up around the switches and thought that I had solved the issue as everything went back to normal, but unfortunately the fault is back. The two switches are micro switches that are both connected to the same socket underneath. I thought that this socket might have a loose connection but you can't get your hand in there to unplug it. The inside panel would have to come off. I sprayed the switches and plug with isopropyl spray which I usually use to clean up electrical contacts and sticky switches etc. The micro switches can't usually be cleaned as they are a sealed unit. I tried to move the plug to free any loose connection there. So to recap the fault is at 20 MPH the "Soft Top Not Latched" warning on the dashboard with audible warning comes on. I would like to find out if you can turn the audible warning off so I can use the car. The boot also won't open in the fault condition. I had a sticking boot previously but no roof problem so I connected a piece of string to the boot latch so I can open the boot manually. On the Roadster there in no manual boot release inside the car. The only other thing that I can think of is that perhaps it is a software problem.Let me know how you get on, I'll do like wise.
Very strange that the fault only occurs once you reach 20 MPH, others have tried disconnecting the battery or even replacing the battery especially if the stop start isn't working either.I have spent the morning having a clean up around the switches and thought that I had solved the issue as everything went back to normal, but unfortunately the fault is back. I have a very knowledgeable friend taking a look at it later this week. I will post any findings.Very strange that the fault only occurs once you reach 20 MPH, others have tried disconnecting the battery or even replacing the battery especially if the stop start isn't working either.
We definitely have the same fault. This is how mine started with the alert going off for a few seconds. I think that there must be a safety feature with the boot locking if the roof is being opened as the boot shouldn't be up when opening the roof. The boot opens when the roof is down. I can only see 2 micro switches I don't know if there are any more elsewhere? I haven't had time to look into this any further at the moment. Its certainly a tricky one!Wife reported the audible alert went off for literally a couple of seconds this morning, this was during a 30 min journey.
Hoping your knowledgeable friend can shed some light on the problem otherwise it's looking like it'll be a hefty bill at the local Mini main dealer for me 🤬.We definitely have the same fault. Just had another look and still can't work it out. I wonder if it's a software issue. It would be a good idea to try and talk to one of the main dealer mechanics directly for advice. Wife just got home and confirmed that it alerted for a couple of seconds again on way home above 20 mph. I already tried speaking to a Mini mechanic, I got the very knowledgeable service receptionist (not) telling me mechanics cannot come to the phone. Likewise I’m away on hols from Friday so will have to park the problem for a little while.Just had another look and still can't work it out. I wonder if it's a software issue. Unfortunately this is largley true for licenced dealerships, the service advisors are there to liaise with customers and the techs have tasks assigned via the central booking system that they have to clock in and out of. Spending 20 minutes or more on the phone trying to talk through a problem with a car that they can't see is going to count as 'non productive time' (and honestly you'd be pretty annoyed if you were sat waiting for your MOT to be done, only to find out the tech responsible had been on the phone dealing with something else). What BMW garages want is for you to book the car in and have it investigated properly, with all the hourly rates that are then involved.I already tried speaking to a Mini mechanic, I got the very knowledgeable service receptionist (not) telling me mechanics cannot come to the phone.
