Motoring up Mt. Washington

83836 Views 1434 Replies 64 Participants Last post by  Actual Size
I know there are many Mini owners in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont (as well as all our neighbors). I was thinking how fun would it be to do a Mini Trek to Mt. Washington. To get a group of Mini's together to drive up to the top of the Mountain. Make a day of it, drive up to the top, and then have lunch near by (or a picnic somewhere on the mountain). What do you guys (and gals) think about this?

Just finished washing it (love finding all the new stone chips in the front :)

See you all in the am.
Drive carefully, y'all
Good on you, Lord W., the father of us all, the seed of 1000+ gemstones, blah, blah, blah.

Driving home this evening south or west (officially termed) on Rte. 9, another ly/b MINI passed by. Was in the middle of a line as was he so no lights blinked and I made a feeble wave. Could have been ICE??? Thought I heard the sweet sounds of magnaflow, too.

Nighty night
Just finished washing MCS. Must awake at 6AM to finish cleaning the interior.
Hope everyone has a safe trip.
I will be on Rte. 93N at 8:45-9AM exit 8 in Manchester.
See you all in the AM!

I will be at the Mobil Station off Exit 10 in the AM doing the last bit of vaccuming and washing of the car. Luckly Peabody did most of the work for me today when I picked my car up.

Not sure, but expect anything. Just to let you know our cars are Ford LTD's (Crown Vic's) Dark green, and this light brown (almost pink) color, not always I have seen black ones too (unmarked though). Also they have several that have no light bar, but have all the lights on the inside of the car, so you can't seem them coming in traffic. Very easy to spot, unless they are off the road. Once you enter NH, you will notice that there is a good patch between the road and the woods. I have seen blind corners where there is a large patch of grass, there will be a cop in there and you will not see him until it is too late to avoid what he is picking you up with.

Also in NH the larger local departments will patrol the Highways too, Nashua and Manchester do this.

Oh and finally in an effort to make everyone a safer driver (ie easier way to tack on more fines and raise money) they are starting to ticket people for not using blinkers to make lane changes, turns, or pulling out from a side street. I know it sounds nuts but they are trying to prevent people from making quick turns or lane changes at the last momment.

I wasnt going to make it up there this weekend.

BUT we are going up over the 4th of July Weekend so we might see someone up that way??? hope it was drier up there than it was here on long island... we got a deluge..

I've heard someone is building a large boat.... some member of the bronx zoo..

so.. how was it????????? and I hope all of you went on Bear Notch Road... or else thru Passaconaway Road (aka Albany Bridge Road) to River and Westside ... the best way to AVOID North Conway traffic snarls!.. though Bear Notch is more fun IMHO.

looking forward for the pics...

Sunset

Hear is a photo of me praying to the Gods for an awesome sunset. And two photos of the sunset. Although a bit blurry:cool:

A GREAT time was had by all! I am sure that there will be plenty of awesome photos for you to view! Sorry you missed this one. Although, I am sure that after you see the photos, you will not miss the next one!

Ooops! That reply was for Rob.:D
I missed two photos. Will try to send again. Don't get to upset, after all I am still a "junior"
Somebody beat me to making the first "after" post... Oh well. Great time was had, many smiling sunburned faces (who'd of thought?). Wildlife spotted by me and my co-pilot: 1 rabbit, 1 fox, 1 moose (alive), 1 moose (recently passed).

The drive home pretty much sucked. Light rain and fog combined with everything else caused a "long" trip back.

Made it home, awesome day, pics tomorrow ZZzz..
OH BTW We saw someone (not a mini owner) had hit a moose on the way home tonight, made us very alert to what was ahead in the rainy dark!
We saw the moose too, and we were alert, but not enough.

Sad to report a MOT fatality -- one porcupine. We hit it just north of Hookset NH. Everything seemed okay until we overheated, got off the highway, found real damage, and about 20 quills in the sidewall of the left front tire. MINI hauled off, compliments of roadside assistance, headed for Peabody. Lynn and Adam and I got a lift from the nice gas station guy as far as Salem, where we were met by my daughter and sister.

No idea yet about the condition of the MINI. Spoiler definitely wacked. More loose plastic bits underneath.

But I'm still calling the day a success (more for us than the porcupine). What a great time, and great people. Thanks again to Steve and everyone else who made it fun.

I'll probably visit Peabody on Monday to check out the damage.

Sigh.

By the way, here's the SUmmit Cam picture, compliments of my Friend Tom.

Saw the pics!!! Excellent!! Actually sent the one of all the MINIs in the parking lot on top to a friend..

gotta say

you guys had the most beautiful sunset I've ever seen in a long time!!

Considering down here on Long Island.. we were wondering if there was still a sun or not!
Also.. (I dont know if any of you know this..) Getting a really clear or great day on the top of Mt Washington is VERY VERY Iffy.. and is usually a very small percent of days.

most of the time the top is socked in.. Sue and I have been up there about 10 times.. and have had 3 clear days.. (one of those was great... with 45 mph winds!)

so Congratulations to all who went...

(and yes I am VERY envious!!!!)
