My roof just stopped mid opening.....

I've just been through all the faulty cabrio threads and they appear to be related to flat batteries, snapped cables or overheating. I had a problem with mine this morning that I don't think can be blamed on any of these.

Started the car first thing... opened the sunroof only as I was only driving a mile and a half into the village. Shut the sunroof on arriving and left the car for about 10 minutes. Come back, start the car, open the sunroof initially (no problem) and then on 2nd press of the button the roof stops mid-opening. I try a selection of different button presses - it won't open any further but it shut ok.

On my final journey home I had the sunroof open no problem.

Spoke to my local dealer who says they will probably need it for a couple of days to look at it.

Has anyone had this problem/heard of it/got any further information?

if I were you, i'd keep the roof firmly shut until they have had it plooked at. Have you seen the pictures of cars with thier roof half open, half closed?

I know what you mean, but you have seen this thread, yes?

Did you make sure that the "Parcel Shelf" is locked firmly in place. I believe the top will not operate without it in place, yes?
I did see that thread... pictures of a stuck roof like that just not nice. I don't want to be stranded in that situation as well - especially now the rain is here! :(

I will check the parcel shelf actually - not sure when I moved it last but I'm pretty sure I've had the top down since. Definetly worth a look though just in case my stuffing the boot with shopping might have shifted it....

Many thanks for all your advice. :)
Check that the latches on the "easy access" boot are closed firmly and that the parcel shelf is in place. There are two micro switches on the shelf so make sure the shelf is completely lowered.
After saying that, my roof did fail while halfway through closing and no matter what I did it wouldn't budge. Not a geek from the motors, nor any flashing from the roof buttons to say it wasn't secured. Left it for an hour and tried it again and it closed a couple of inches then died again. Kept doing this for a while till I got it completely closed. After that it would only do sunroof mode. (It wasn't the overheat problembecause it was cold out (10c)). Brought it in to my dealer and they could find no problems, typical it started working again. They reset all the computers and switches etc and (touch wood) it hasn't occured again.
Make sure the bonnet is closed as well

At my dealer walk through, the roof wouldn't work. We checked parcel shelf, etc. Finally walked around the bonnet and it wasn't completely shut. Voila, roof worked.

Just another thing to look at,

Mike
Well I've checked the parcel shelf and all - everything as it should be so it's going into dealers next week to be investigated along with the poor starting problem.

I'll keep you posted... hopefully this time next week I shall have the roof open again enjoying the autumn sun... :p

Thanks for all your help.

poor starting problem.
Maybe the Battery needs a charge.
Mine got stuck half way down once also...

I drove it to the dealer (who luckily is very near) and they released it with some special spanner type tool. Must have been jammed somewhere....

Never had the problem again!
The car went in today and they couldnt replicate the roof problem and it only poorly started once. Service chap came out to demonstrate to ensure that I was using the roof properly... the car didn't want to start and the roof wouldn't open again. I felt sorry for him as he was only passing back what the mechanics told him.. upside is they now know I wasn't imaging either problem for when it goes back in.

I kept the roof down all the way home on the back roads even though it was chilly! Lovely! :D
Roof sorted - it was just a micro detector attached to the boot that become detached. And the reluctance to start required a new fuel pump. All sorted. :p

Many thanks to Brendan of Scotthalls for getting the car sorted very quickly.
