New here, hi all! Color choices...

Hi everyone, I've been a Mini-lover for years and years - as an eight year old, I would often proclaim that when I'm grown up I'm going to drive a frog-eyed Sprite or a Mini. Well, I think that time has finally come! Since they don't make Austin Healey's anymore, I think the choice is obvious. :)

I'm in Monterey, CA (loved the Mini shootout at Laguna Seca a couple of years ago!), so I've put down my deposit with East Bay Mini (no way am I paying over MSRP). I'm comfy with all the options, etc., but I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure out the color! I've got it narrowed down to CR/W or HB/W. They both look great to me, very appropriate and Mini-like. Oh, and stripes with either one of course - if I CAN get a car with white racing stripes, aren't I obligated to do so? :) However, I just can't decide between the two colors! :(

So if any CR/W or HB/W folks feel like proselytizing my way, it would be more than welcome! Lately I've been leaning more towards HB/W, but who knows? :) I have at least a month to drive myself crazy before they finalize the order at the dealer.

Here's my spec:

2005 Cooper
Sport Pack
Anthricite interior + headliner
Chrome Interior
MFSW

Is there anything I'm missing there? It seemed like a great setup to me - love that interior chrome pack!

I love the CR/W!!! That is what I have. I almost went with IB when I bought mine but I think the blue is more "manly." It was a beautiful color but just not for me.
HY/W

Also add H/K to your Spec and a sunroof! :D
First off, I love hyper blue. It's a fantastic color. But blue is a tricky beast. I've never preferred blue cars because they seem to get dated more quickly than other colors. From pastel blues to powder blues to teals to the current high-tech electric blues currently en vogue, shades of blue seem infinite in variety and come and go quicker than teen pop stars. Perhaps they should name the shades Britney Spears Blue? Lindsay Lohan Blue? Hot today, not tomorrow. :(

So while hyper blue may look downright stunning today (which it does, no question), will it look a bit out of step 5 years from now? Who knows.

But with red, well, it's red! Red is red. Ultimately red cars have always been cool and always will be. Give me a classic Corvette, Porsche, Mustang, Ferrari.....if it's red, it looks GOOD!

A tough call. I love all the MINI colors. But I ordered :red:

I can't get enough of the body-colored interior. Either hyper blue or chili red, those colored dash bits look amazing! I ordered the red dash for my red cabrio. That plus the chrome interior trim is pure pizazz.
Go for CR/W. It's my favorite :D , but then again I'm biased.

Here's a recent photo.

Good Luck
Chris :) :) :)

I'm currently sporting CR/B but my first MINI was CR/W. It will always be a personal fave. ;)
CR/W is a classic MINI colour. (yes I have it)
I'm not much of a red car fan generally, but in combo with the white roof and mirrors it's a winner.
However - in my opinion the bonnet stripes just don't work on the red - I don't know why.
I do like white stripes on the bonnet of BRG, HB, black, etc., basically all the dark colours.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone - at least I know that I'll be happy either way - they BOTH look great.

I must admit, around here (Monterey, SF Bay Area) a LOT of the CR/W Coopers that I see are driven by women (not that there's anything wrong with that, of course!), so I think that's having an effect on my decision - being a dude and all, HB/W just seems a little more bad-ass :). CR/W is fantastic too, just a little "friendlier"! But this is my childhood dream we're talking about here... :)

I was looking at a HB/HB S at the local auto brokers (many thousands of $ over MSRP, naturally) and it seemed a little TOO blue. Does anyone have any pictures of HB/W Coopers out there?

I'm not really a sunroof kind of guy, so I'm passing on that - also, I didn't really like the way it only closes with those shades. It is HUGE, however, so if you're a sunroof person, you're set.

Thanks,

Eric

Absolutely right!!!

If I were to choose between blue or red I'd go for the red!!!... :)

Have you seen Johnsocal's CR/W Cooper S with the chrome dash? I think this is the last word in CR/W - it looks amazing.

Having said that, the blue is just gorgeous. I think I'd go with the blue and a body-coloured roof with racing stripes.

I'm not a fan of the body-coloured dash. I've had the silver and the anthracite on two previous cars and just took delivery of a 05 Cooper with the alloy patina dash and chrome interior. I think it's the nicest combo I've had to date, but then we're all different!

Out of curiosity, what is the wait time for a Cooper from East Bay? I have a brother in Pleasanton who's interested in ordering a new Cooper S.

Enjoy the speccing - this is the fun part!

I gave them my $1000 deposit last week, and they said that I should get either an April or May build month. Add in a luxurious Atlantic cruise and scenic road-trip to California, and it will be about a 4-5 month wait. :)

I'm not opposed to a S, but the wait for those at East Bay was unbelievable - 12 MONTHS! The salesman said that they had tried to purchase used S's at auction, and it was impossible - the bidding got out of hand every time. Mountain View is shorter for an S (it was pretty much the same for a Cooper, however) but there's the whole MSRP+$1000 (Cooper)/$2500 (S) thing there.

I'm beginning to think the thing to do if you want an S from East Bay is to order a regular Cooper, and when it comes time to pick it up, you put down your deposit for an S. Then, a year later when your S comes in you just trade in your Cooper (since the things apparently appreciate in value around here it will come out pretty close) and you're set! :)

Luckily, a Cooper is fine with me! :)
I would go with HB/W without a doubt. CR/W is my second choice but HB is so gorgeous and is new in a Cooper so you will be pretty unique too.

I only wish we could get HB Coopers in the UK. My order would have been in by now for sure....fortunately my mate is getting a new MCS in April and I'm buying his 2003 MCS then but when it comes round to my 2nd MINI, it's hyper blue all the way.

Good luck
Re: dealers

Hi, there,
I've recently been going through the same as you w/colors...but my dilemma has been between BEP/Purple Haze w/white or Hyper Blue w/white or black roof.
I'm a gal, so have also been debating about whether one of my colors is more 'male' or not. ;) (like you are wondering the opposite)

Went w/HB/White but have run into a bad experience w/where I ordered...
so am re-thinking the whole thing.

Was wondering what Mountain View told you for, as to when Coopers are being built for them?
You said it was the same as E Bay Mini? (April or May 'build')
They told me otherwise the other day, so am curious what they told you.

You wonder sometimes whether these people are truly on the 'up'n'up' with us,
if you know what I mean?! Anyway, congrats on your exciting prospects & I'm so happy for you that you don't HAVE to have the car immediately.
I've been feeling like I sort of do, since my car broke down. (leaves me fewer choices for ordering...forcing me to accept over MSRP)

Nice to have you here!! :)

Well, since I'm set on HB/W now, it looks like my masculinity is in peril! :)

About car dealers, I have always been of the opinion that they are ALL shady, in varying degrees of course (I'm sure everyone has loads of crooked dealer stories over the years). The way the whole car market is structured kind of enforces that, IMO. However, both Mountain View and East Bay seemed pretty decent to me. Also, with the enormous amount of profit Mini dealers are making on these things, it would seem that they have an incentive to keep things on the up and up.

When I was at Mountain View, I asked the person at the desk (not a MA, so that might have had something to do with it), and she said it would probably be an April build. On the phone, they said "four months". East Bay said April or May, so it seemed about the same to me. What did Mountain View tell you? Did you give them your deposit and everything?

I hope your Mini experience ends happily (I'm sure it will!) If you really need one ASAP, they have quite a few at the auto brokers (S and Cooper) down here in Monterey - though I'm not sure if they're technically new or not since it's a broker, and they look to be at least $3000 over MSRP.

Thanks metslung for the further info.
May email directly about the specifics of these dealerships.

Again, congrats on your order! (and no, I wasn't implying
anything about the blue seeming more female) ;-)
As was discussed here before...all colors work for all types. :-D

Take care

Just kidding around myself, all Mini colors are nice and unixex as far as I'm concerned! Not a bad one in the batch, really.

Though, truth be told, I finally chose against CR/W after seeing THREE different ones on the same day being driven by old ladies (nothing against old ladies or CR/W Mini's of course! :)) with their toy poodles riding shotgun. That was just too much (and a not-uncommon experience down here in Monterey) - HB/W here I come! :)
What a riot! I could just picture that! ;-)
And, yes, I find red pretty common around here, too.
Noticed the other day that half of the newly delivered Coopers/S's at our local dealership were red!

That's another odd thing about even red.
I hear some people saying red is more masculine...the sportiness of it.
Others, see it as more 'female'.
So, thankfully, Mini accomodates all these different 'tastes' we all have!

However, I *do* wish Mini would standardize which colors they offer across the Board.
If Canada can get Electric Blue Coopers, why in the world can't they ship them to the U.S. too.?? (it would be one thing if it were only overseas)
And, cool blue on convertibles only? Would like this option on Coopers, too...
