I've had my mini for 2 months now and I thought now i have a bit more money I will see how much it would cost me to upgrade my wave cassette/radio for the cd player, BMW quoted me £475 surely this can't be correct?

Ouch!!
As I was interested in upgrading from my standard Wave to Boost, I thought I'd ask. Was the £475 just to go to the single slot CD player with Boost? Or did it (hopefully) include the autochanger in that price?

That was just for the single slot cd player. I looked last night to see if I had the cd changer cable in the boot and I haven't got one. Does anyone know how much it costs to get the cable fitted?

Guys,
Save yourself the hassle and a good few hundred quid!....
Sony do a boot mounted CD changer with an inbuilt FM modulator...
You just retune one of your radio settings...
Get a demo first, as I heard a rumour that there may be a drop in quality.

well,

ok so you want to change the radio, well why not upgrade, all ou need to do is get a fascia for 1299 or 799 if u know where to look and a iso lead which costs a tenna, and choose your radio, pop into halfords and you can have any radio you want, fit it your self which is easy peasy even for beginers, or get it fitted, some headunits have free fit at halfords any over 179.99

and you will always get a loss in quality having fm modulators, which is why radio is so pants,

you could have a disc changer package from 249.99

Tom

p.s. sorry but i work for halfords as u can tell,

I've just looked at the Halfords web site, they don't have the mini on the list for extra parts you need with the head units. If I go to the store will they know what parts I need, and more importantly if i get them to fit it will they know how to fit it to the mini?

the face plate is £10.99 from halfords just order it as the parts desk

as for free fitting from halfords would you let one of those schoolboy's who have had a 3 hour traning session to be able to fit a headunit loose inside you new mini

get a pro to install it and if you get the headunit from them if it cost upwards of 250 they will probley fit it for free if you supply the faceplate

thats what huet in worthing are doing for me

silver surfer seems to be quite wrong,

its not yet on the list cos autoleads have not supplyed the update list to halfords head office,

its either the pc2-75-4 lead or the standard bmw 3series lead but it depends on when your mini was made the first one thousand are different leads, the face plate is availible as i said as long as auto leads have them in stock, which they did not last week, but due in this coming,

silver surfer should get his facts right,

halfords are not the ones fitting the headunit, all the garages are owned by the AA and some how i dont think a qualifications stated a 3 hour training course, and last time i knew the AA have to be qualified,

i'm pretty annoyed by what you said cos all the mechanics in our garage are far from schoolboys, and are all fully qualified car mechanics and electricans, and my mates.

There's at least one specialist head unit supplier in an area - I discovered that my local Audi garage makes use of a particular company for fitting third party upgrades, so simply find out which dealer is used by local garages.

oh by the way if your not happy with "school boys" fitting your radio, the free fitting covers a mobile fit company in the area who can do your headunit, but at the end of the day if you only trust a "profesional" thats up to you,

but how do you define professional, is it by experience or text book knowledge? OR AGE?

When ordering my BMW MINI Cooper I soon realised what a poor investment a factory fitted CD/MD etc unit would be so I just got the bog basic one put in.

I now have a top of the range Pioneer headunit with Digital Radio for less money than BMW are quoting for just a single slot CD player.

The best bit is I got it from Halfords who took no time at all to slip it all in complete with the Fascia adapter etc. I would certainly recommend their service, passengers who have travelled with me since ask if the radio was standard...can't be bad and I reckon I'm still into pocket.

Choose a main audio dealer to fit the stereo, someone like Uplands or Sextons. I should think you'd have more of a come back if there was any problems :)

Some of the stereo's you see in magazines like MAXPOWER are actually imported model's & its always best to seek advice from a proper ICE dealer :) :)

true,

for instance terms for a price match in halfords are:

Same item, exactly (not last years model)
Authorised Dealer (will be checked)
UK Goods only (no grade b stock, or imports)
within 20 miles of a halfords store,
the shop or place has to have it in stock, (not special order)
The company must have a retail outlet

easy lol

Nakamichi

Don't know much about it though I'm after a nakamichi head unit as a replacement as once fitted it will subtely appear in the dash, I have a beautiful Pioneer head unit with a OEL display but it is just going to look garish in the dash... the nakamichi goes arange and will lokk the bollocks....

By the way the sound quality is superb with 4x43 outputs and 4v pre-outs....
