Hi all. Be gentle. First timer.
My 2002 Cooper CVT has started to play up with the CVT being very jerky at low speed and pretty much undriveable. An auto-electrician has said there is no signal on the purple wire in the diagnostic port. He also managed to get this on his screen. Any ideas?

There’s a video on YouTube about this very fault (purple wire is pin 7 on the OBD plug).

In this case the problem was found to be the wire had been caught and shorted out against the engine by the gear selectors under the air box or battery (depending if your car is a supercharged one or not).

The fix was as simple as finding the break and rejoining it, the cause was a previous repair leaving the wiring loom in the wrong place or unclipped.

Finding the location of the fault was more difficult, but I recon most cars will fail at similar points, or at least start your visual inspection there.
