I just brought my Cooper S home from its first scheduled oil service at roughly 10,000 miles. The scheduled maintainance is free, however I did change the oil at 5,000 miles also.

My question is this...when my car was new it started the countdown of how many miles until oil service, and the dealer states the maintainance is free when it is due according to the guage. Problem is now that they reset it, it states something like 15,000 miles not until oil service but until inspection. Seems to me that if I go by the guage I miss out on a free oil change. If the inspection is due at approx. 25,000 miles, then shouldn't another scheduled oil change be due first????? Is the dealer trying to jip me out of a free oil service?

Your dealer speaks the truth ...

The next free oil change isn't until the Inspection 1 service around 25K, which means you might want to change it yourself once or twice before then ;)

Thanks for the clarification, I know it's not necessary with synthetic but I try and keep my intervals to every 5k anyhow.
