Hi,

I had my oil changed at kwik fit (yeah, I know) and ever since I've had the red light come on when the engine is hot and idling. I've searched the forums and as per a few threads I've had a look at the oil filter.

I'm not clear on this - if I put my finger in the oil filter hosing there's like a spring-loaded button - should this match up with a hole in the oil filter?

The filter they used looks like a 3rd party one (i.e. not made by MINI) and there's no hole in either end - should there be one?

Also, what does the little spring-loaded button thing do?

I've got a spare BMW/ MINI filter at home which has got holes in either end . One end is about the size of a 5p coin. The other end the size of a 10p coin. I'd buy a genuine filter if I were you. Also check and see if the wire from the oil pressure switch has come off during the oil change.

Cheers, I put the same filter back on for now and took it for a spin, it seems absolutely fine. I guess it wasn't seated correctly.
