HI all

Right. My R53 has a very large oil leak. When running, it will drip onto the floor at regular intervals, leaving a small puddle. If driven, it will empty the sump in 50 miles.

To solve this leak, I replaced:

Oil cooler seals + Oil cooler
New Rocker cover (which was cracked in the corner) plus new OEM Seals
Oil filter housing gasket
Cam sensor + O ring
Crank sensor + O ring

after all that. It still leaked. It seems to be worse from the passenger side/rear of the engine (RHD UK Car). It seems to drip from the mating surface between the gearbox and the crank seam. The confusing thing is that it also seems to leak from above. If you look up behind the engine, near the starter motor, its very wet in this area. I cannot see any oil above the exhaust. I initially thought it was the power steering, but this does not leak.

This week I pulled the front of the car off and did the sump gasket. Put it all back together today.

STILL LEAKS!

So, Due to its location I am thinking it may be the rear main seal, but the clutch operates fine. The only other thing it could be is an external oil leak from the head gasket.

thoughts before I burn the thing to the ground? :)

Sounds very much like the rear main seal.
i was just thinking that as reading it, the flywheel throws the oil outwards and at starter ,
