Had some good news and bad news. My Mini is ready for collection. Bad news - they want to re-value my part-exchange. My car was originally valued in late August, and delivery has slipped from October to December. My car is worth less now, but the re-valuation was not made clear when I ordered the car. Dealer says revaluation is normal. My last car had a 3-month waiting list and the p-ex was not revalued (actually it was - upwards - they said they found a better offer!).

What is everyone elses experience?

A salesman at a dealer I spoke to yesterday said that if I wanted him to he would value my part exchange but it will be valued 'three months on' since the car wouldn't arrive until March if ordered now.

And as for ordering, my MINI order now won't be placed until the new year, but it will be worth the wait. (Fingers crossed!)

I had my part-ex car valued 'three months on', But my MINI came a month early. So I got a bit more than expected for it. Still not enough to pay my finances of though!

i had this same kind of experience when getting my car, in the first dealers i went to they said they can only give me a value of my car for which it is worth when the mini arrives, which was two months later(ah u get it don't u?)

but then they said they can't actually give me a value back then because they can't estimate how much the car would be in two months time- so i said to them that its ridiculous... so forget them i went somewhere else (specialist cars luton) and they gave me a straight estimate for part exchange price and they also got my cooper within 3/4 weeks! haha

Your lucky, my dealer wasn't interested in a trade on the MINI at all.

I guess i'll sell it privately and put the $5000AU i gain towards the MINI.........duh!!!.

PART - EX

I was given a valuation for part ex as of the date i ordered my cooper.Because the depreciation would be to much on 3-4 month waiting list for my car they took my car 2 weeks later and gave me fat cheque in return.

New arrival is due in on new years eve.(fat chance of that i think really) The second week of Jan is more likely.

Thanks for the replies.

Seems some dealers "anticipate" future trade-in values and some don't. If you are buying - make sure you understand how long the offer is valid for and get it in writing if possible.

My Cooper is due 2nd January. I have deliberately "numbed" my anticipation otherwhise the 4 month wait would not have been possible. Starting to look forward to it now!

If you can find a dealer who knows what things will be worth in the future then keep a hold of them, they'll be worth their weight in gold. There are two reasons that a dealer will guarantee a price, 1st; the car has done all of its depreciating, ie older car, 2nd they have a firm underwrite from a trader. If the trader is stupid enough to do that the dealer will pass that advantage on to you in a firm price. If neither is the case then they won't commit to anything.
