how many miles has car done, what you describe is common when chain is at a point where its out of time and only gets triggered when the engine is loaded then on loaded this causes the chain to on and off the over run to amplify this movement as such,
also another cause can be vvt sprocket faulty this is very rare, also the oil control rings within the 1st journal on the cam shafts wear out and cause some kind of fault these control rings are main dealer only, seeing more and more of these causing issues as these engine get older,, i have started telling people when doing the chain worth doing these oil control rings as part of the job, as its a big job to do after chain done,
1.4 prince engine tends to wear chains out slightly faster than the 1.6 it seems,, the turbo cooper s engines are on par with the 1.4 my theory is due to more revs are used on 1.4 and turbo engines..
on ebay you can by a complete chain kit including the vanos sprockets FAI branded £230,

after 2010 they redesigned the chain tenioner with a long reach one, it appears the only place to buy these is main dealers,, its same as Peugeot and Citroen sometimes worth buying from them as can be cheaper on some stuff,
the tensioner that comes with these kits is as per factory fit before 2010,,,
