Have a 2012 mini cooper coupe s (R58) on 85k, noticed a slight misfire when driving and thought it could be a spark plug (since they were due a service). Turned on the engine following day and got a yellow check engine light for P0087 (low fuel rail pressure) with a rough idle turned the engine off. Then turned it back on, ran a little better but still with misfires and P0087 fault code cleared along with the engine lighty and replaced with P0300 (random misfires) P0302 (misfire cylinder 2) and P0304 (misfire cylinder 4). Cleared fault codes and drove very gently for 2 mins and rechecked and same cyclinder misfire error codes.
Replaces spark plugs following day and restarted engine, and back to very rough idle, check engine light and P0087 fault code has returned. The FRP is showing 1000 psi on idle on my obd scanner though.

Any ideas what the likely cause is? Fuel filter issue or failing HPFP? If either, any idea why the fuel rail pressure is showing 1000psi?

likely cause another code will get after a few starts is p2880 when they get so bad hardly run, below screen shot shows live data on a healthy cooper s after new fuel pump fitted , measured in MPA 1000psa is around 6.8mpa guess thats been taken when car at revs over 3000 if so it should be around 8mpa , idle should be around 5mpa ie 725psi ,, i would also live data the injector corrections if any are way out then might have a bad injector bleeding off pressure under force, if have equal readings then high pressure pump is under what should be under load, or if that was at idle then over fuel pressure at idle and fuel pump reg fault or and seals , cheapest fix in link below

if you have a cooper s after 2006 with the turbo prince engine n14 or later n18 that on first start up will misfire and back fire and takes a number of times to start ie if keeps firing once or twice almost like its run out of fuel feeling and after a few times of this then starts and then...
