Parcel Shelf Grille

Whats the official line on this?, The car I test drove did not have it, many members have reported their test driver had it and the exhaust sound was enhanced.

are the factory fitting these to UK spec cars now or was it just a ploy to make the car sound better for the press vehicles??

I've yet to see an S with the 'grille'.

It's a recent addition, but I was told it would be standard.

When we went for a test drive we noticed the grill on the parcel shelf and the dealer told us that it the Cooper S's that get the grill there are those that have the warning triangle!?

Just going by what the dealer has told me!! Which S's get the grille then???

MINI UK told me they were fitting this grille in the parcel shelf to enhance the fruity noise from the exhaust, but none of the dealer demos i've seen had it fitted.

I read on another thread that the grille's stated purpose is to release air pressure when closing the boot.

Any confirmation?

I was told by the guys from MINI HQ it was for effect (noise) only.

As was I, cannot see it helping air pressure as the One and Cooper havent needed them.

I'm sure it is just there for the sound effect. BMW puts a lot of time and effort into such things from making sure the "bing" on a car's seat belt warning sounds appropriate to getting the right solid "thunk" when you swing the car door shut.

I like the noise the tyre pressure warning light makes. It's just like the seat belt light on planes!
