higher octane the better prevents super knock

If you want maximum performance use the grade specified. Using a higher octane rating provides nothing more that wasted cost. If you want the least expensive solution, and are willing to give up a modest amount of performance, go to the lowest octane rating available. The vehicle electronics should prevent knock. If you do detect knock, go to a higher octane rating.
I have run a BMW to >200,000 miles like this without any adverse effects and 2 other BMWs to >120,000 miles and >105,000 miles also without issue.
