It has an IR sensor now

Yes it does.

i guess the size reduction is due to removing that huge empty slot on the rear which was rumoured to fit a hard drive (japanese market had one) but it never surfaced in the West. Gotta say sometimes slim is better..

The main problem is the flip opening load mechanism now. But the local ICE shop I spoke to says it can be mounted upside down, as the laser and the disc sit on the same mech so if they move, they both move together.

The problem is there isn't a good mod yet, so if you want to fit one on the Mini is better to wait. When it will be a good mod you could mount:

PSTWO+mod
a converter from 12v to 9v (very cheap)
a good screen

and with that you use dvd, divx, mp3, ps2 and ps1 games, plus every software you want to put on cd, like emulators ed everything.

Then soon there will be the possibility to link an USB Hard Drive.

I saw one the other day I was amazed. It makes the PS2 look like a brick.
