So I recently worked on a customers R60 all4 and noticed a striking similarity in the rear subframe with it and my R56 JCW. And that got me thinking. Can the awd system be converted over to the R56? On certain volvos all that needs to be done is swap the rear subframe that contains the rear diff, AOC, and axles, swap the gearbox with the angle gear, and install the centre driveshaft and the haldex control unit. In theory that could be done on the mini. Obviously I don’t know as much on them as I do volvos being I’m a volvo mechanic. I did some research on the idea and couldn’t find anything other than total custom fabrication

You might have clearance issues when it's time to put the exhaust on. And just in general with the height of the car. You can do whatever you want in the end. After owning the mini cooper r56S I have wanted to buy what I used to drive in the 90's. A 1991 Plymouth Sundance in you guessed it; that weird light red color.
Then I would find some swing arms(rear suspension) off a r56 in the junk yard and attach them where the rear suspension was in the Sundance. tada! perfect handling car. With just welding steel square plates under the back seats. No brainer bolt the rest on. and Go Go Go!
