i ran out of petrol and now i cant get my mini to start, i thought that maybe some sediment at the bottom of the tank has blocked the petrol filter? where is the petrol filter and is it hard to change? are there any ideas why i cant get the mini started? any help would be much appreciated

yes it now has petrol in it, but it doesnt seem like any is actually getting to the engine im not hearing the buzz of the petrol pump when you turn the ignition key on, but ive checked all the fuses and none are blown

If you've completely run your MINI out of petrol, likelihood is you also now have a shot fuel pump.

The pump when run dry will overheat and burn itself out.

Contact either your dealer, or a local garage/MINI Specialist to get it replaced ;)

check the fuel pump fuse first. The pump is in the tank itself so not so easy to get at, but its probably a blocked line somewhere due to sediment . A decent garage with an air line (virgin atlantic or BA would do :p) will hopefully sort it.

Could the fuel pump need to be primed? This may not apply to the mini but my old diesel had a pump under the bonnet which after running out of fuel (and having put some more in of course) you squeezed a few times to pump some fuel along and reprime it... Possible other solution perhaps?
