Hi everyone, first post, recently got a mini cooper s R56 as a run around.. and to be honest, really regretting the choice!

Basically, I'm getting a random loss of power and pinging under load.

So if I do have full power it will ping in 2nd and 3rdat higher rpm under load.

But quite often I can drive it around normally, and will either only boost once above 4000 rpm or nothing at all under any rpm range, will have a lot of induction noise when not boosting.Could then come to a stop at a set of traffic lights, set off again and it's back to normal.

Get a multiplicative mixture fault, lambda post cat heater not working or lambda post cat ageing fault.

Have replaced the O2 sensor and still get this fault. Also fitted a new diverter valve and new spark plugs.

HPFP is showing steady pressure, doesn't drop off at all and raises in pressure with the rpm. Checked the vacuum hoses and all seem fine.

Anyone have any other options? I'm literally losing the will to live!

Will give these a go! PCV hose looks fine, also tried blanking it off with the blanking plugs. Didn't make any difference so put the hose back on.

Car is on 83,000. It's had 2 timing chains. Last being about 20-30,000 miles ago.

Mine was a worn wastegate pivot.
It would boost as and when it felt like it.
I went through everything like you but eventually pulled the turbo off and the wastegate was jammed open.

Jason

How much play should there be in the wastegate pivot?

Should there be any rocking movement??
