Removing air intake hose in order to fit cold air intake system

I have today received my Ultrik cold air intake system which I purchased from MiniMania, but have come to a grinding halt fitting it, much to my annoyance!

In order to fit the system I need to remove the factory air intake hose. I have successfully unclipped the top part where the air is fed from, but the bottom section is a real pain to remove. This bottom section has another pipe which goes to the fan I believe?.
The instructions which came with the system did state this would be tricky but I didnt think it would be as difficult as this!. Do I simply need to give it some force as theres no mention of another clip in the instructions?, if so how much force should I give?

Also one more question

If the replacement hose does not have the same pipe which feeds to the fan will there be any implications?, why is this pipe, which is on the factory one, there in the first place if it is not needed by this new system?

the clip that holds the airbox pipe on is a pain in the back side as it it awkward to get of as it is a tamper free clip holing it on, u need to get something under the clip and bend it up a bit and then its a case of yanking it off! a little wigglwing and brut force will do the trick! the new one is ver easy to fit after adn all you need to do then is drive out in it and listen to it roar!! grrrrr

So do you have any idea why this bottom pipe is on the factory one but not on the aftermarket one? Is it to soften the noise or to feed more air into the filter box, something like that maybe?

The bottom pipe is a resonator to reduce intake noise. It doesn't lead to the fan, just
buries itself in the left front of the car. Tt is a pain to yank out. I made the mistake of
trying to unhook the pin that seems to hold it in place, but actually, the tube does
slide out of its pocket with a bit of effort and twisting. I was also afraid I'd damage the
A/C hoses that run right by there, but they're fairly sturdy. To top it off, my kit didn't
come with any instructions, and I had to call MiniMania for advice (after waiting several
hours for them to open on the other coast).
Another part of the bottom pipe stays in the recess in the left lower front of the car...
I jammed a rubber door stop against it to keep it from rattling around. I also used some
silicone caulk to seal things up better where the intake meets the factory opening. I also
put a small hole (about 1/8 inch) in the bottom of the MiniMania intake tube (the square
shaped part just before it goes into the stock air-box bottom) so that water that might
enter will drain.
Overall, I'm pleased with it. (which is a good thing since putting the stock tube back
in would be a bear!)

Well Well - too bad i didnt find this post before i added mine...

So the lower part of the resonator disconnects from the piece that actually goes into the box in the fender well ?

The tube goes down about 8 inches from the large opening into the airbox, then
makes a 90 degree turn and goes 2 inches into the hole in the fender well. It
mates with the rest of the resonator inside the fender well at that point, but
there's a ridge and a square of plastic on the tube that kind of locks the two pieces
untill you twist and pull hard enough.

Huh !

So is there any way other than to pull on the %&^$^&$&^ like a mad banshee until it pops out.

IE: no way to undo the barbed clips that hold it in ?
Huh ! Maybe I could just cut it off flush with the Fender, Exacto Blade attachment for the Soldering gun ! he he he ...

When I called MM for instructions (this was 10 months ago), they said to just
pull & twist hard enough, and eventually it worked. The ridge and barb are
molded into the tube, so they don't pop off. I think it locks into a similarly
shaped recess in the corresponding piece. Maybe you could get to it from
the other side by taking things off in the wheel well, but I didn't look into that,
then. Cutting the tube is certainly an option, but more irreversible.
