Recently bought a 06 mini Cooper which only had one set of keys. Where is the best place to get a second set. I only want a basic key just in case I lose the original set.

Does the key look like this? https://www.amazon.com/Dudely-Repla...argid=aud-800640527683:pla-634437310717&psc=1

If so, you still will need the key duplicated which takes a special key cutter (normally around $40-50 per key) and you will need the transponder programmed, typical fee of $60-150.

Open Wallet. Most places will throw the key in for free as a part of those other services.
You can go to Mini/BMW, when I had my 2006 Mini One I only had one key myself and I got the key/fob it costed about £135 including them making it work, which took seconds. Hope this help? I did put up a post but don't know how to put up the post link.
Sorry the price payed was £137.72 from main dealer.

That is $170 which is about the same price I just told you for both the key cut and the transponder programming. I don't believe there is a way out of this price with a low end of $150 to a high end of $200. He is saying only a "basic key". I think he means without the remote. The issue is you could get a simple key cut without the remote and it will "open" the car but it won't "drive" the car. For that, you need the transponder. The cost of the remote in that exchange is nothing, zilch. You will get that for free because they make all their money on the other two things. So it will cost you the same for remote or no remote.
