Hi,

I just spotted a small crack in the rear light cluster of our 205 R53 (photo attached). Is it possible to replace the outer-plastic (the transparent part with the crack in it) separately or will it require a new light cluster?

And in either case, has anyone replaced the rear cluster on an R53 - is it a three week job with full mechanic facilities, or something a bit easier?

Thanks,

Steve

You need to replace the whole unit, lots of second hand ones on eBay. You need a 2004-06 cluster, earlier ones are different (fog lamp in the cluster not reverse lamp).

Make sure you get one with the same coloured indicator, some are clear and others orange.

Orange indicators.

Clear indicator (wrong side though)

Fitting is a fiddle, but ok once you get used to it, a short 10mm spanner will be needed.

R50/3 and R52 are the same (hatch and convertible).

You undo the 10mm nut behind the side panels. Unplug the multi-plug. And then there are two springy clampy springs - you push/wiggle the whole lot out, backwards, out of the car, not into it. Not too bad. 20 minutes or so and one spanner and or socket.
