For those who may be interested there is a Memorial Service for Max on the 5th December.
I have spoken to Dora and she is OK with this info being posted here.

Date: Fri 05 Dec 08

Time: 14:00h

Venue: Garrison Church of St. George, Bulford Camp

Here is a link to the location of the church according to OS reference:

I believe there will be some form of refreshments afterwards in the Officers' Mess, details to be confirmed.

The church is outside the fence, which makes parking and access a lot easier.

In order to gain entry into the camp for the get together afterwards, I need in advance the following information from peeps in advance, so that I can forward them to the camp:

Car Make (ok, that's the easy bit)
Car Registration
Name of people attending

Please contact me with the information, thanks. ( contact @ appletheminicooper.net )

I've only just discovered this shocking news, Max was one of the first people I met at my first South Downs run and we always stopped and had a chat whenever I saw him. He was quite a character and will be missed. My condolences to Dora and his family and may he rest in peace.

A very moving service. Max clearly had many many friends and collegues that really held him in high regard.

Shame to go so young. Real shame. Will miss you Max.

And I'd like to say to Max, wherever you are mate.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY for tomorrow. There will be lots of people thinking of you.

Like stated above, a very moving service, which included an astonishing eulogy by his colleagues and former colleagues.

We heard about the 40 years that Max was in the army, and we learned that he was held in the highest esteem wherever he was posted, and that if he had not had such a disregard for those above him, he would have been promoted beyond the Lt Colonel position that he had achieved.

Max really was very highly regarded wherever he went.
